On February 11, Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) recorded the most transfers in a single day, enabling the transfer of more than 6,000 people.

It was the busiest day of the year for the Maldives, with the biggest number of visitors in a single day, and TMA reaching its milestone on the same day. The island nation welcomed 10,213 tourists on February 11th.

TMA is the most seasoned and established transportation company in the Maldives, and it has long been the go-to option for connecting visitors from Velana International Airport to more than 90 resorts spread across 16 atolls. With a fleet of 65 aircraft, TMA is currently the largest seaplane operator in the world. From its modest beginnings with just 2 aircraft and 4 passengers, the company has evolved to become one of the biggest in the Maldives and a significant player in the development of the country’s tourism infrastructure.

The surge in Maldivian tourism has been closely linked to TMA’s expansion. Seaplane services have expanded resort possibilities outside Male’ atoll, significantly improving transport access to the dispersed islands. Over the last three years, TMA has added over ten resorts and eight additional seaplanes in response to the growing demand for tourism. They have also expanded their services to encompass Laamu and Gaafu Alifu, two new atolls.
