Hotelier Maldives has announced “Resilience and Reinvention: Talent, Technology and Transformation” as the theme for the 10th edition of its General Managers’ Forum, scheduled to be held on October 5, 2026. The annual forum will bring together senior leaders from across the Maldivian tourism and hospitality industry to examine how resorts and tourism businesses can strengthen their operations, develop their workforces and adapt to a rapidly changing global business environment.

The 2026 theme reflects the increasingly complex operating conditions facing the international tourism sector. Geopolitical developments, economic pressures, climate-related risks, technological disruption and changing employee expectations are influencing strategic and operational decisions across hospitality markets. For Maldives resorts, which operate within a highly competitive global destination landscape, the ability to respond effectively to these challenges is becoming essential to sustaining service standards, protecting business performance and maintaining the country’s position as one of the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations.

Discussions at the forum will explore how general managers and senior executives can guide their organisations through periods of uncertainty while ensuring operational continuity, supporting employees and preserving the quality of the guest experience. As the Maldives’ resort industry is built around personalised service, carefully managed island operations and distinctive destination experiences, leadership teams are required to balance commercial priorities with workforce wellbeing, environmental responsibility and the expectations of international travellers.

Leadership during disruption will be a central focus of the programme. Sessions are expected to examine decision-making under pressure, effective communication, organisational adaptability and the responsibility of senior leaders to build confidence within their teams. The forum will also consider how managers can establish clear priorities, maintain employee trust and respond quickly to operational challenges without compromising service quality or long-term strategic objectives.

Talent development and workplace culture will form another major component of the forum. Resorts across the Maldives continue to compete for skilled professionals capable of delivering internationally recognised standards of hospitality. The programme will therefore examine how hospitality organisations can attract, develop and retain employees by creating supportive workplace cultures, strengthening training opportunities and providing structured pathways for professional growth and long-term career advancement.

The forum will also assess how resort leadership teams can prepare employees for workplace changes resulting from automation, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Rather than considering technology only as a means of reducing costs or improving systems, discussions will explore how digital tools can support employees, increase productivity, improve coordination and allow hospitality professionals to dedicate more attention to areas of service that depend on creativity, judgement and meaningful human interaction.

Technology and business transformation will be examined across resort operations, guest engagement, data management, revenue strategy and organisational planning. Sessions will consider how resorts can introduce new systems that improve efficiency and commercial decision-making while retaining the personal service, cultural character and destination identity that distinguish the Maldivian tourism experience. This balance remains particularly important for island resorts, where technology must complement rather than replace the personalised attention and authentic experiences expected by international guests.

The 2026 theme builds on the subjects explored during the previous three editions of the General Managers’ Forum. The 2025 forum was held under the theme “Digitalisation and Expanding Experiences,” focusing on the integration of technology into the guest journey and the use of digital systems to strengthen operational efficiency and personalised hospitality.

In 2024, the forum examined “The Evolving Luxury Landscape,” addressing changes in luxury travel, evolving guest expectations and the positioning of the Maldives within the international tourism market. The discussions reflected the need for resorts to continuously refine their products and services as travellers increasingly seek distinctive, high-quality and experience-led holidays.

The 2023 edition centred on “Innovation and Technology for Sustainability,” highlighting technological developments, sustainable tourism practices and the expectations of environmentally conscious travellers. These themes remain closely connected to the long-term development of the Maldivian resort sector, where responsible resource management, operational innovation and environmental protection are essential to preserving the natural assets on which the tourism industry depends.

Launched in 2016, the Hotelier Maldives General Managers’ Forum has developed into an important platform for dialogue among leaders of the country’s tourism industry. Each edition brings together resort general managers, owners, developers, senior executives, government representatives and industry partners to exchange knowledge, share operational insights and discuss commercial and strategic matters affecting tourism and hospitality.

The 10th edition will mark a decade of industry discussions focused on the development and competitiveness of the Maldives’ resort sector. Through presentations, panel discussions and professional networking sessions, GM Forum 2026 will provide participants with an opportunity to consider how resilience can be embedded across leadership, workforce development, technology adoption and business operations.

The forum is expected to support greater collaboration among tourism stakeholders while encouraging hospitality leaders to identify practical approaches for strengthening their organisations. As resorts continue to respond to international competition, changing traveller preferences and advances in technology, the event will provide a timely platform for examining how the industry can remain adaptable, people-focused and commercially sustainable.

Further details regarding the venue, speakers, programme and event partners will be announced ahead of the forum.
