The President’s Office has announced the reopening of applications for membership in three advisory committees established to provide technical expertise and professional consultation to the Government across key economic sectors of the Maldives. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to enhance structured engagement with industry professionals and strengthen evidence-based policymaking in areas that play a vital role in the nation’s economic growth and long-term development.
The advisory committees cover the tourism, construction and fisheries sectors, each representing a cornerstone of the Maldivian economy and contributing significantly to national income, employment, and sustainable development objectives. Through these committees, the Government aims to bring together experienced professionals, practitioners and subject-matter experts who can offer informed guidance, practical insights and strategic recommendations to support sectoral advancement.
The Tourism Sector Advisory Committee is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the country’s globally recognised tourism industry, which continues to position the Maldives as one of the world’s most sought-after luxury and nature-based travel destinations. The Maldives’ resort sector remains a defining feature of its tourism success, offering visitors a unique combination of pristine natural surroundings, exclusive island experiences and high-end hospitality standards. Resorts across the archipelago are known for integrating environmental stewardship with premium guest experiences, including marine conservation initiatives, renewable energy adoption, and eco-conscious architectural design that preserves fragile island ecosystems. Advisory input is anticipated to support policies that further enhance competitiveness, sustainability and innovation within this internationally respected industry while ensuring balanced growth that protects natural resources and community interests.
The Construction Sector Advisory Committee will focus on promoting sustainable growth and improved standards within the construction industry, which continues to expand alongside national infrastructure development, urban expansion and resort construction projects. The committee’s expertise is expected to assist in addressing evolving industry needs, encouraging efficient building practices, strengthening regulatory frameworks and supporting environmentally responsible development aligned with the Maldives’ climate resilience priorities.
Meanwhile, the Fisheries Sector Advisory Committee is intended to strengthen both traditional fisheries and emerging mariculture activities, sectors that remain deeply connected to the country’s heritage while also contributing significantly to export earnings and food security. By incorporating professional consultation, authorities aim to support innovation, responsible resource management and value-added opportunities that enhance the global competitiveness of Maldivian fisheries products.
Authorities have extended the application deadline to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, providing additional time for qualified and interested individuals to submit their applications. Submissions will be accepted on working days, excluding public holidays, between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Applications may be submitted via email to [email protected] or delivered in person to the reception of the President’s Office. Application forms are available at the President’s Office and may also be downloaded from its official website.
The reopening of applications highlights the Government’s continued commitment to formalising sector-specific consultation mechanisms and strengthening collaboration between policymakers and industry stakeholders. By incorporating professional expertise into national planning processes, the advisory committees are expected to contribute to informed policy direction, sustainable economic strategies and the continued development of industries that shape the Maldives’ position within the global economy.
