Dusit Thani Maldives, the luxury island resort located on Mudhdhoo Island in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, has unveiled a collection of thoughtfully refreshed villas designed to offer guests a more contemporary, comfortable and refined island experience while preserving the resort’s distinctive natural character and Thai-inspired hospitality.
The refurbishment covers several of the resort’s signature accommodation categories, including Beach Residences, Overwater Pool Villas and Overwater Pavilions. Inspired by the island’s lush tropical landscape and its spectacular 360-degree house reef, the updated villas combine modern design elements with the spacious layouts, privacy and relaxed atmosphere for which the resort is widely recognised.
The refreshed interiors feature a lighter and more contemporary aesthetic, complemented by updated furnishings, renewed timber ceiling finishes and modern lighting. The enhancements create brighter and more welcoming living spaces while strengthening the visual connection between the villas and their surrounding tropical environment. The design also presents a modern interpretation of Dusit International’s Thai heritage, combining understated elegance with warmth, comfort and a strong sense of place.
Selected villas have undergone adjustments to their internal layouts to improve functionality and the overall guest experience, while other villas retain their familiar spatial arrangements. This approach allows returning guests to enjoy renewed surroundings without losing the sense of comfort, privacy and character they have appreciated during previous stays.
Jean-Louis Ripoche, Area General Manager for the Maldives at Dusit International, said many guests return to Dusit Thani Maldives year after year because of the resort’s natural beauty, generous sense of space and warm Thai-inspired gracious hospitality. He said the latest enhancements preserve the qualities guests already value while presenting a fresher and more contemporary expression of the resort.
“Whether discovering the resort for the first time or returning for another stay, guests can now enjoy an even more refined and relaxing island experience,” Mr Ripoche said.
The villa refurbishment forms an important part of a broader enhancement programme being implemented at Dusit Thani Maldives. The programme is intended to continuously improve the guest experience while protecting the resort’s established identity, architectural character and close relationship with the natural environment of Baa Atoll.
Further guest-focused improvements, including updates to selected dining spaces, are scheduled to commence from the third quarter of 2026. The wider resort enhancement programme is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2027.
In addition to the physical improvements across the property, Dusit Thani Maldives has launched a refreshed website designed to make the travel-planning process easier and more convenient. The updated digital platform enables prospective guests to explore the resort’s accommodation categories, review available experiences and plan personalised stays before arriving in the Maldives.
Mr Ripoche said exceptional hospitality extends beyond the period guests spend at the resort and begins from the moment they start planning their visit.
“From the moment they begin planning their visit to the lasting memories they take home, we want every interaction with Dusit Thani Maldives to reflect the warmth, care and gracious hospitality that define the Dusit experience,” he said.
Situated on a naturally beautiful island surrounded by the clear waters and rich marine environment of Baa Atoll, Dusit Thani Maldives offers guests direct access to one of the country’s notable house reefs. Guests can snorkel directly from the island, observe the diverse marine life of the atoll and enjoy a wide selection of curated recreational, dining and island experiences.
The resort also features Devarana Wellness, where treatments and restorative experiences are offered within a tranquil treetop setting. Together with its spacious beach and overwater accommodation, tropical environment and personalised services, the resort provides an attractive destination for travellers seeking privacy, comfort and meaningful engagement with the natural beauty of the Maldives.
Dusit Thani Maldives can be reached from Velana International Airport by seaplane or through a domestic flight followed by a speedboat transfer. Its location within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve further strengthens its appeal among international travellers seeking premium accommodation alongside access to one of the Maldives’ most internationally recognised natural environments.
