Maldivian has entered into a strategic partnership with Hahnair, significantly expanding the national airline’s visibility and accessibility across key global travel markets. Under the agreement, Maldivian flights are now bookable in major Global Distribution Systems (GDS) using the Hahnair Technologies X1 code, allowing travel agents in 190 markets to issue tickets through the standard GDS process on the HR-169 ticket. This structure brings Maldivian into the same booking environment used daily by travel agencies worldwide, placing the carrier firmly on the radar of tour operators, wholesalers, and corporate travel managers planning holidays and business trips to the Maldives.
According to the announcement, the collaboration connects Maldivian to a network of more than 350 partner airlines, greatly strengthening its international distribution capabilities. For travel agents, this means Maldivian’s flights can be combined more easily within complex itineraries, including multi-sector journeys that link major long-haul gateways with onward connections into the Maldives. For passengers, the partnership translates into more seamless booking experiences, simplified ticketing, and improved access to competitive fare options when planning journeys to Maldivian resorts and guesthouse islands.
The Maldives’ luxury resort sector depends heavily on reliable, well-timed air connectivity to feed high-value guests from long-haul markets. By integrating into Hahnair’s distribution network, Maldivian positions itself more competitively as a preferred connector between international flights and the country’s resort destinations. Travel planners can now package Maldivian sectors together with other carriers on a single HR-169 ticket, making it easier to sell door-to-resort itineraries that combine major international hubs with onward flights to Malé and domestic gateways. This is especially important for premium travellers, honeymooners, families, and diving enthusiasts who expect smooth, coordinated journeys from their departure city to their chosen island retreat.
Maldivian currently operates a fleet of 26 aircraft, including an Airbus A320, an Airbus A330-200, Dash 8 aircraft, Twin Otter seaplanes and ATRs, serving 17 domestic airports alongside several regional routes. This fleet composition is well suited to the Maldives’ tourism geography, where international visitors typically arrive at Velana International Airport before transferring to domestic flights or seaplanes to reach resort islands. The expanded GDS presence will help fill capacity across this network by channelling more bookings from overseas markets directly into Maldivian’s regional and domestic services, supporting both established high-end resorts and emerging properties in outer atolls.
For resort operators, the partnership is expected to support better demand visibility and more consistent arrivals, particularly during shoulder seasons when targeted air access and packaged itineraries can make a decisive difference in occupancy and revenue performance. By becoming more accessible to global travel agents, Maldivian strengthens its role as a critical link in the Maldives tourism value chain, complementing the marketing efforts of resorts, destination management companies, and local travel agencies. The collaboration is also aligned with Maldivian’s stated ambition to provide convenient connections to one of the world’s most sought-after holiday destinations, enhancing the overall guest journey from booking stage through to check-in at island resorts.
As demand for travel to the Maldives continues to grow, the Maldivian–Hahnair partnership is expected to deliver tangible benefits across the tourism ecosystem. Greater connectivity, simplified ticketing and broader market reach should help drive higher passenger volumes into the country, supporting investment in new resorts, the expansion of tourism into additional atolls, and the wider diversification of the Maldivian economy. For travellers, it means more straightforward access to the Maldives’ signature overwater villas, pristine beaches and world-class hospitality; for the national carrier and the country’s resort industry, it creates a stronger platform to compete for global tourism spend in an increasingly interconnected market.
