One of the Maldives’ most prominent tourism campaigns targeting the Indian market concluded successfully following a four-day visit by internationally renowned Indian musician, television personality and Indian Idol judge Badshah. The campaign brought together the global appeal of the Maldives and the extensive influence of one of South Asia’s most recognised entertainers, presenting the destination to millions of potential travellers across India and beyond.
The visit was organised under the Cultural Ambassador Programme of Visit Maldives Corporation and hosted by Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. The campaign was developed to strengthen the Maldives’ visibility in the Indian market by connecting Badshah’s wide-reaching cultural influence with the country’s distinctive tourism experiences, natural beauty and internationally recognised hospitality.
Badshah is among India’s most influential contemporary entertainers, with his music and digital videos generating billions of streams and views across major platforms. His particularly strong connection with younger audiences and digitally engaged travellers makes the collaboration highly relevant to the Maldives’ efforts to inspire a new generation of Indian visitors seeking convenient, premium and experience-driven international holidays.
Throughout his four-day stay, Badshah experienced a diverse range of activities reflecting the Maldives’ appeal as a complete island destination. His itinerary included water sports, luxury yacht excursions, personalised resort hospitality and opportunities to experience elements of Maldivian culture. The programme highlighted how the Maldives combines relaxation, adventure, privacy and cultural discovery within a single destination.
Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa provided a distinguished setting for the campaign. Located on Dhonakulhi Island in the northern Haa Alifu Atoll, the resort is set across approximately 297,000 square metres of natural tropical surroundings. Its remote location, expansive beaches, lush vegetation and clear lagoon offer guests a strong sense of privacy and seclusion, while providing access to a broad selection of recreational and leisure experiences.
The resort features more than 100 spacious beach and overwater villas, including private-pool accommodation designed for couples, families and groups. Its villas are recognised for their generous dimensions, with selected residences offering extensive indoor and outdoor living spaces overlooking the beach, lagoon or surrounding tropical landscape. This combination of space and privacy positions the resort as an attractive option for travellers seeking a peaceful luxury retreat away from more heavily populated tourism areas.
Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is also home to the Maldives’ first yacht marina, complementing its focus on marine exploration and private ocean experiences. Guests can take part in yacht journeys, diving, snorkelling, fishing excursions and a wide variety of motorised and non-motorised water sports. The island’s extensive coastline and surrounding marine environment allow visitors to explore different areas of the lagoon while enjoying both active adventures and relaxed time by the sea.
The resort caters to a wide spectrum of international travellers through its recreational facilities, family-oriented services and diverse culinary experiences. Families can benefit from dedicated activities for younger guests, while couples and honeymooners can enjoy secluded accommodation and personalised island experiences. Its restaurants serve a broad selection of international, Asian and Maldivian-inspired cuisine, adding another dimension to the resort’s overall guest experience.
Commenting on the campaign, Visit Maldives Corporation Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree said the partnership with Badshah represented an important investment in strengthening engagement with Indian travellers.
“Our aim is to use Badshah’s popularity to remind Indian travellers that the Maldives is a nearby, easily accessible destination offering a wide range of unique experiences,” Shiuree said.
The campaign is expected to generate significant digital visibility through content produced during the visit. Instagram Reels and YouTube vlogs featuring Badshah’s Maldives experience will be released through his social media platforms in the coming weeks, allowing his large international audience to experience the destination through engaging visual storytelling.
The content will showcase the Maldives not only as a luxury destination, but also as an accessible choice for family holidays, honeymoons, private retreats and adventure-focused travel. By presenting the destination through the perspective of a prominent Indian cultural figure, the campaign is expected to create greater familiarity among prospective visitors and encourage stronger travel interest from the Indian market.
India continues to be one of the most important tourism markets for the Maldives. It was the country’s largest source market in 2020, 2021 and 2022, demonstrating the strong travel connections and geographical proximity between the two countries. In 2023, the Maldives received 209,193 visitors from India, accounting for 11.1 per cent of total tourist arrivals during the year.
As of 19 July 2026, a total of 68,933 Indian tourists had visited the Maldives. Indian travellers represented 6 per cent of the 1,154,980 international arrivals recorded during the period, placing India as the Maldives’ sixth-largest tourism source market at that time.
The collaboration with Badshah forms part of Visit Maldives Corporation’s wider strategy to rebuild momentum and strengthen the destination’s presence among Indian travellers. Through celebrity partnerships, digital storytelling and collaborations with leading tourism establishments such as Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, the Maldives is continuing to position itself as a welcoming, accessible and globally competitive destination offering memorable experiences for travellers of different interests and age groups.
