The Maldives has proudly won four medals at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship, held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The highlight of the achievement was a silver medal in the under-19 mixed doubles category, earned by the talented duo Fathimath Dheema Ali and Akhyar Ahmed Khalid. Despite an impressive showing, they narrowly missed gold after a straight-sets loss to India’s Bejaji and Prita, with scores of 9-11, 12-14, and 8-11.
Adding to the nation’s success, Maldivian players also brought home three bronze medals. Dheema teamed up with Mishka Mohamed to claim bronze in the under-19 women’s doubles, while Umair Mohamed Muizzu and Akhyar Ahmed Khalid secured another in the under-19 men’s doubles. The third bronze went to Aishath Alsa Nafiz and Aishath Malka Thaanis in the under-15 women’s doubles event.
The championship concluded with a closing ceremony officiated by First Lady Saijida Mohamed, marking a proud milestone for Maldivian table tennis on the regional stage.
