The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has launched an inspiring nationwide initiative designed to connect creativity with financial awareness, giving school children the chance to reimagine the role of money in society. The Tamweel Values & Vision Art Showcase invites students in grades 5 to 9 across the Maldives to portray how ethical values, inclusivity, and sustainability can guide the future of finance in ways that serve both people and the planet.

Through paintings, digital illustrations, mixed media, or drawings, students are asked to present finance as more than a system of figures and transactions. Instead, the artworks should reflect finance as a powerful instrument for fairness, community care, and resilience. To ensure depth of thought, each submission must be accompanied by a short description linking the artwork to one of the chosen themes.

The competition’s framework has been carefully designed to engage young minds with concepts that align with the Maldives’ national development goals. Students can explore one of eight broad themes, such as “Money with a Purpose,” “My Dream of a Fair Economy,” “Helping Hands: The Spirit of Giving,” and “A Just Future Through Inclusive and Sustainable Finance.” These topics encourage students to challenge conventional views of finance and instead highlight justice, responsibility, and social contribution.

To make the experience inclusive, the competition is divided into two categories: grades 5–7 and grades 8–9, with separate recognition for digital and non-digital submissions. Winners in each category will receive cash prizes of up to MVR 3,000 along with certificates of achievement. A special award of MVR 500 will also be presented for the best Islamic finance-inspired creation, reflecting the MMA’s dedication to nurturing awareness of diverse financial practices. Beyond the prize, the most outstanding works may be showcased at MMA events and highlighted in official publications and awareness campaigns, allowing young artists to reach a wider audience.

Entries may be submitted digitally or physically, with the deadline set for 9 October 2025 at 3:00 pm. The MMA has emphasized that all submissions must be original, age-appropriate, and completely free from plagiarism or AI-generated content.

The Maldives Monetary Authority—established as the nation’s central bank and financial regulator, plays a pivotal role in ensuring monetary stability, fostering trust in financial institutions, and encouraging responsible growth in the economy. Through initiatives such as this art showcase, the MMA is going beyond regulatory functions and engaging the community, especially younger generations, in conversations about ethics, sustainability, and inclusivity in finance. By doing so, it is nurturing a deeper public understanding that finance is not only about markets and policies but also about shaping a just and sustainable future.

This initiative adds a vibrant cultural layer to the Maldives’ global image. For visitors exploring the islands, it highlights how the country values education, youth empowerment, and creativity alongside its world-renowned natural beauty. In the same way that the turquoise waters and coral reefs reflect harmony with nature, the MMA’s art competition symbolizes how the Maldives seeks balance in its financial and social development.
