The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2026 has officially been recognised as a World Athletics Ranking Competition, further strengthening the Maldives’ growing presence on the international sporting calendar and creating new opportunities for athletes to record globally recognised performances in the country.
The international recognition means that eligible performances achieved during the race can contribute towards athletes’ official World Athletics rankings. For Maldivian runners, as well as international participants, the recognition provides an opportunity to compete for internationally accredited results while experiencing one of the country’s most established mass-participation sporting events.
The 2026 edition has also achieved a new participation record, with more than 5,500 runners registering for the event. Dhiraagu initially limited registration to 4,000 participants, but the strong response from the public prompted the company to expand capacity, making this year’s race the largest edition in the event’s history.
DMRR 2026 is scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 November 2026, at Hulhumalé Central Park, bringing together professional athletes, recreational runners, families, corporate teams and first-time participants. The race programme will feature a Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Open category, together with newly introduced team categories aimed at encouraging wider community and organisational participation.
The event continues to build its international profile as the first international run hosted in the Maldives. Its course is certified by World Athletics and the race is also listed on the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races World Running Calendar, positioning the Maldives as an increasingly attractive destination for internationally recognised running events.
Hulhumalé provides a distinctive setting for the race, combining modern urban development, spacious public areas and coastal surroundings within one of the Maldives’ fastest-growing communities. Hosting an internationally recognised sporting event in the city also supports the Government’s broader efforts to promote active lifestyles, community participation and the Maldives as a destination capable of hosting high-quality international events.
Beyond competitive running, DMRR 2026 will continue its strong social responsibility focus through its support for child protection. The event provides participating non-governmental organisations with a platform to raise funds, increase public awareness and advocate for the rights and wellbeing of children across the Maldives.
With record participation, internationally certified race standards and World Athletics ranking recognition, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2026 is expected to deliver one of the most significant editions of the event to date while further enhancing the Maldives’ profile in international athletics and community-based sporting events.
