Malé is set to host a new chapter in the Maldives’ sporting and tourism story as Dhiraagu partners with the Tennis Association of Maldives (TAM) to bring the first-ever International Tennis Federation (ITF) tournament to the country. The ITF Maldives Junior Open 2025 – J30 will be held at the National Tennis Centre from 16 to 30 August 2025, bringing together more than 100 under-18 athletes from 24 countries, including 22 Maldivian players, in a showcase of young international tennis talent.
This prestigious tournament is a Category J30 event on the ITF Junior Tour, offering aspiring tennis players a chance to gain global ranking points and experience high-level competition. By hosting this tournament, the Maldives expands its growing reputation not only as a world-class beach destination but also as an emerging venue for international sports tourism.
Dhiraagu: Powering the Nation’s Sporting Aspirations
The event is proudly supported by Dhiraagu as the Main Partner, underscoring the telecom giant’s commitment to national youth empowerment, community engagement, and the diversification of tourism in the Maldives. Dhiraagu, the country’s leading digital services provider, has a long-standing tradition of supporting sports initiatives, arts, culture, and education. This new collaboration continues that legacy with a bold step into international tennis.
“We are proud to support the first-ever ITF event in the Maldives, helping to advance tennis in the country and give young players a platform to compete on the international stage,” said Mohamed Mirshan Hassan, Director of Brand and Marketing Communications at Dhiraagu. “This aligns with our commitment to developing sports and promoting the Maldives as a destination for sports events.”
Elevating Local Talent and International Engagement
Organised by Tennis Association of Maldives (TAM), the ITF Maldives Junior Open 2025 represents a major opportunity for local athletes to gain exposure to international competition without leaving home. According to Iqnaz Mansoor, Vice President of TAM, the partnership with Dhiraagu is instrumental in making this vision a reality.
“We are committed to elevating tennis in the country by providing young athletes with opportunities to compete at higher levels and gain international exposure,” stated Mansoor. “We sincerely thank Dhiraagu for their continued support as the Main Partner of the ITF Maldives Junior Open 2025, which plays a vital role in making this tournament a success.”
Boosting Sports Tourism in the Maldives
The event is expected to boost visitor arrivals during August and attract global attention to Malé’s growing infrastructure for sports tourism. Athletes, coaches, and families from around the world will engage with the Maldives not just as a leisure destination, but also as a vibrant sporting hub.
This tournament highlights how public-private partnerships, such as the one between Dhiraagu and TAM, are central to positioning the Maldives as a multi-faceted travel destination, combining natural beauty with enriching global experiences.
A Continuing Commitment
Dhiraagu’s support for the ITF Maldives Junior Open 2025 complements its broader corporate social responsibility efforts, which include youth development, community empowerment, and digital inclusion. As the Maldives expands its horizons in both sports and tourism, Dhiraagu continues to stand at the forefront, helping to shape a more dynamic future for the nation.
