In a strong show of commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development, Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced the five recipients of its annual ‘Bank Fund 2025’. The initiative, now a flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program for the country’s national bank, awards MVR 200,000 (approximately USD 12,970) to each of five outstanding non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on high-impact development projects across the Maldives.
Launched as part of BML’s broader efforts to support inclusive national progress, the ‘Bank Fund’ targets grassroots initiatives that bring lasting value to local communities. With a focus on education, healthcare, mental wellbeing, and digital transformation, the 2025 cycle supports projects from NGOs operating in various islands, ensuring nationwide outreach.
Among this year’s grant recipients is the Diabetes Society of Maldives, which will use the funding to establish a dedicated diabetes clinic in Hulhumalé. The clinic aims to offer community-based services focusing on prevention, early diagnosis, and ongoing management of diabetes, a growing public health concern in the Maldives.
Another grantee, the United Islamic Society, will enhance youth development through the installation of a modern multimedia studio at the Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre. The new studio will help expand the digital media skills of students while supporting the continuation of the school’s highly reputed Media Club.
In Baa Atoll, the Foundation for Eydhafushi Youth Linkage (FEYLI) will establish two integrated laboratories at the Baa Atoll Education Centre. These labs are designed to deliver practical vocational and creative training programs to equip students with real-world skills and improve their future employment opportunities.
Recognizing the growing need for mental health care, the Maldivian Nurses Association has proposed a sustainable, community-based support system to assist individuals facing severe mental illness. With the Bank Fund, the association will initiate rehabilitative outreach activities and build a mental health service unit in Hulhumalé Phase 2.
Lastly, Tiny Hearts of Maldives will develop a national digital resource hub dedicated to heart and physical health. This online platform will serve as a central repository of accurate, accessible information for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals seeking to improve cardiac and overall health outcomes.
The Bank Fund, which has been running since 2022, is part of BML’s long-term CSR strategy aimed at strengthening the fabric of Maldivian society through partnerships with civil society. Each year, the bank selects five impactful projects and provides direct funding to accelerate their implementation. By focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation, the program has become a key driver of grassroots transformation in the country.
As the leading financial institution in the Maldives, BML continues to champion causes that align with the nation’s development goals. Through initiatives like the Bank Fund, BML demonstrates its role not just as a provider of banking services, but as a proactive partner in building healthier, more resilient communities across the islands.
