Maldivian pilgrims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage will now receive free medication and vaccination services, both during their pilgrimage and in future Hajj seasons, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced during his visit to Maldivian pilgrims currently residing in Makkah. The new policy, introduced as part of a wider effort to enhance pilgrim welfare, was officially announced at the hotel where Maldivian pilgrims are accommodated.

Speaking during the visit, President Dr. Muizzu stated that, starting immediately, pilgrims will be able to access essential medication free of charge following a medical consultation. He further committed to expanding this support by making all required vaccinations and medication for Hajj pilgrims available on every inhabited island in the Maldives, with facilities to be established at island level to streamline service delivery.

The President underscored that his administration is fully committed to ensuring comprehensive care and support for pilgrims throughout every phase of their journey from pre-departure preparations and arrival in Makkah to their safe return to the Maldives. He praised the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Maldives Hajj Corporation in working closely with pilgrims to address their logistical, medical, and spiritual needs.

Highlighting the operational improvements this year, the President acknowledged the role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facilitating a smoother Hajj experience for Maldivians. In particular, he praised the implementation of the Makkah Route Initiative, which allows pilgrims to complete immigration, customs, and health formalities at Velana International Airport before departure. This initiative has significantly reduced processing times upon arrival and improved overall travel efficiency.

The President also confirmed that the standard of living arrangements in Mina for Maldivians had seen a noticeable upgrade compared to previous years. A dedicated health clinic has been established exclusively for Maldivian pilgrims, further reflecting the emphasis on health and safety.

Expressing gratitude for the continued hospitality extended by Saudi Arabia, President Dr. Muizzu thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on behalf of the Maldivian people. He described the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia as exceptionally close, likening it to that of siblings, a sentiment echoed in the warm reception extended to Maldivians by Saudi authorities.

During the visit, the President and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed took time to personally interact with pilgrims, inquiring about their experiences and listening to their feedback on the services provided. Their presence was warmly welcomed by the pilgrims, many of whom expressed appreciation for the attention and care shown by the country’s leadership.

This year, a total of 1,000 Maldivians are performing the Hajj pilgrimage. The new healthcare initiative and continued investment in service quality reflect the Maldivian government’s dedication to supporting pilgrims and strengthening ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through faith, service, and shared values.
