Tourist arrivals from Russia to the Maldives have exceeded 100,000 in 2025, reinforcing the country’s strong presence as one of the leading source markets for Maldivian tourism. As per data released by the Ministry of Tourism, 101,837 Russian visitors were recorded by May 25, contributing 10.8% to the total arrivals so far this year.
Russia’s steady travel interest has secured its position as the second-largest source market for the Maldives in 2025, trailing only behind China, which has registered 111,217 arrivals. The United Kingdom follows closely with 96,914 tourists, while Italy and Germany have accounted for 80,727 and 72,256 visitors respectively.
Overall, the Maldives welcomed 942,427 international tourists by the end of May, marking an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2024. On average, the country now receives approximately 6,500 tourists daily, highlighting the destination’s continued appeal among global travelers.
The majority of tourists have chosen to stay in the Maldives’ world-renowned luxury resorts, with over 672,000 guests accommodated in these establishments. Meanwhile, more than 218,000 tourists opted for guesthouses, reflecting the growing interest in local island tourism experiences.
To support the expanding tourism sector, the Maldives has developed a robust hospitality infrastructure, now featuring 1,191 operational tourist establishments with a total bed capacity surpassing 63,000. These facilities include resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and liveaboards distributed across the archipelago’s many islands.
In pursuit of its annual target of 2 million visitors, the Maldivian Government has ramped up marketing and promotional activities both domestically and abroad. These efforts aim to strengthen existing source markets while unlocking new ones, reinforcing the Maldives’ reputation as a premier destination for sun, sea, and cultural authenticity.
Russia’s continued interest reflects the country’s strong ties with the Maldives and the enduring allure of its turquoise lagoons, pristine beaches, and high-end hospitality offerings. As the high season approaches, tourism authorities remain optimistic about surpassing projected milestones and delivering exceptional travel experiences for visitors worldwide.
