An influx of international travellers arrived in the Maldives as the Indian cruise liner MS Nautica docked at a Maldivian port, carrying 610 tourists and 397 crew members. The vessel sailed from Mormugao, India, and marks the eighth cruise ship to visit the island nation in 2025, underscoring the rising popularity of the Maldives as a preferred destination among cruise operators and tourists alike.
The Seaport Division of Maldives Immigration promptly completed the arrival clearance procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient entry process for all passengers and crew. This seamless handling reflects the country’s commitment to providing world-class hospitality and services, even at sea entry points.

Cruise tourism continues to be an increasingly vibrant part of the Maldives’ expanding tourism portfolio. This marks the eighth cruise ship to visit the Maldives so far this year, reinforcing the island nation’s growing appeal as a cruise destination. Earlier in March, the luxury cruise ship MS Insignia, operated by the Oceania Cruise Company, arrived with approximately 1,000 tourists onboard, further evidence of the country’s growing appeal to the high-end cruise market.
Cruise tourism has become a key area of focus for the current Maldivian administration. Recognising its potential to diversify and strengthen the national tourism industry, the government is implementing measures to accommodate growing demand from international cruise lines. Among these initiatives is the development of three specialised harbours located strategically across different regions of the country. These harbours are intended to support easier docking and enhance the overall experience for cruise passengers.
The arrival of MS Nautica and other cruise ships comes amid a broader upward trend in tourist arrivals. Tourism remains the backbone of the Maldivian economy, and the country’s efforts to diversify and strengthen the sector are reflected in the steady rise of visitor arrivals. According to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, over 856,998 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, a promising indicator of sustained growth in the industry.
As more international cruise lines add Maldivian ports to their itineraries, the nation continues to position itself as a premier cruise tourism destination in the Indian Ocean, offering serene natural beauty, exceptional marine experiences, and world-renowned hospitality.
