Sheikh Dr. Salah Al-Budair, the esteemed Imam and Khateeb of Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi in Madinah, delivered an inspiring lecture at the Islamic Centre on Thursday evening, 24th April 2025. The address, held after leading the Isha prayer, drew a large and attentive audience, offering profound reflections on Islamic living and personal development.

In his spiritually enriching talk, Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair outlined twelve essential pieces of advice based on Islamic teachings, aimed at nurturing the hearts and minds of the faithful. His address emphasized the importance of aligning one’s life with the core principles of Shariah, encompassing Islamic doctrine, law, ethics, and personal conduct as the true path to lasting happiness.

The Imam reminded listeners to place the Hereafter above worldly pursuits, cautioning that the relentless chase for material gains often leads to spiritual emptiness. In contrast, he assured that those who prioritize their eternal life are granted both worldly sufficiency and inner peace.

“Worldly desires are among the greatest trials faced by humanity,” Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair said. “The cure lies in resisting them. True tranquility is achieved through God-consciousness, consistent obedience to Allah, upright character, and kindness toward others.”

Another key message he conveyed was the importance of steadfast belief in divine decree (Qada and Qadar), explaining that faith in Allah’s divine will strengthens patience during hardship and eases the burdens of life.

Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair also called upon the audience to give utmost care to the five daily prayers, describing prayer as a distinctive mark of a true believer. He stressed not only the performance of prayers but their punctuality and sincerity.

Among the other important pieces of advice delivered were:

  1. Promoting peace and harmony among individuals.

  2. Spreading beneficial knowledge across communities.

  3. Regularly attending gatherings of remembrance (Dhikr) of Allah.

  4. Choosing to live with noble character and avoiding jealousy.

  5. Guarding one’s tongue by speaking kindly and concealing the faults of others.

  6. Avoiding insults and encouraging an atmosphere of compassion.

  7. Steering clear of corrupt and sinful companionship.

  8. Seeking the friendship of the righteous to nurture positive character and values.

The lecture was simultaneously translated into Dhivehi by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, ensuring that the wisdom shared by the Imam reached all attendees clearly and effectively.

Sheikh Dr. Al-Budair’s words of advice were warmly received by the Maldivian public and scholars alike, leaving a lasting spiritual impact and further solidifying the Maldives’ dedication to nurturing Islamic values and education among its people.
