The Maldives continues to strengthen its international partnerships, with a high-level delegation visiting Istanbul to enhance economic relations with Türkiye. On 15th April 2025, Tuesday, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mr. Mohamed Saeed and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel met with Turkish business leaders to explore new avenues of cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
Organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Türkiye (DEIK), the business forum was chaired by Nail Olpak, Member of DEIK and Chairman of the Türkiye–Asia Pacific Business Council. The event brought together leading Turkish investors and industry representatives for an in-depth discussion on expanding collaboration in tourism, renewable energy, agriculture, real estate, housing, port development, investment, and technology.

Addressing the forum, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed highlighted recent agreements that have reinforced the Maldives–Türkiye economic relationship. He referred to the Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in November 2023 and the Preferential Trade Agreement signed in November 2024 as evidence of growing mutual interest and cooperation between the two nations. He also reaffirmed the Maldives’ dedication to building a robust and future-oriented economic partnership with Türkiye.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel further emphasized the Maldives’ geographic and strategic relevance in the global economic landscape. He assured participants of the Government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly climate that welcomes international investors and innovators.
To provide a deeper understanding of current investment potential in the Maldives, Invest Maldives CEO Nuha Mohamed Riza delivered a comprehensive presentation. Her remarks detailed key investment prospects across priority sectors, with particular emphasis on the Maldives’ thriving tourism industry, one of the main drivers of its economy and a magnet for international interest.
The engagement also included one-on-one exchanges between Maldivian Ministers and Turkish business leaders, enabling focused conversations on trade, infrastructure development, and commercial cooperation.
This visit reflects the Maldives’ continued efforts to expand international economic partnerships and create long-term collaborations that support mutual growth. With tourism at the heart of the Maldives’ economic vision, enhanced cooperation with Türkiye opens new pathways for innovation, investment, and sustainable development.
