During his official visit to the United Kingdom, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the experience of Maldivian students pursuing higher education overseas by addressing administrative inefficiencies and strengthening support systems. The announcement came during a luncheon hosted for Maldivian students residing in the UK, where the President engaged in a dialogue to hear their concerns and share the government’s efforts to provide practical solutions.
Speaking directly to the students, President Dr Muizzu acknowledged that many of the challenges faced by Maldivians studying abroad stem from bureaucratic delays within government processes. He pointed specifically to frequent complaints over delayed stipends and tuition payments, stating that these issues often arise due to unnecessary red tape within administrative systems.
The President assured the students that reform efforts are underway to streamline government services and improve responsiveness across all branches. He emphasized that both government-sponsored and privately funded students will be treated with equal importance, with policies being reviewed to ensure all receive timely and reliable support.
In a significant gesture reflecting the government’s focus on student welfare, President Dr Muizzu also announced the reinstatement of No. 9 Rosemont Avenue in London as the official premises of the Maldivian Students’ Association–UK (MSA-UK). The property, which had long served as a hub for Maldivian students before being converted to diplomatic use in 2019, will once again function as a dedicated space for accommodation, support services, and community-building under the MSA-UK.
This decision reflects a broader policy shift aimed at empowering Maldivian students and strengthening connections among the diaspora. The reinstated facility will provide a valuable resource for students navigating life in a foreign country, while reinforcing the Maldives’ commitment to its citizens abroad.
