The Maldives will welcome high-level international delegates for the upcoming Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity, a major event set to spotlight the importance of transparency and ethical practices within the global tourism industry. Scheduled to be held at the scenic Villa Nautica Resort from 2025 May 6 to 7, the forum is a collaborative effort between the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, bringing together officials and experts from over 50 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

This significant event underscores the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening ethical standards in its tourism sector, a key pillar of the national economy. The forum is expected to provide a vital space for dialogue, as government representatives, anti-corruption specialists, and tourism sector stakeholders gather to discuss current challenges and exchange ideas on enhancing integrity in tourism-related practices.

Notable speakers include Adam Shamil, President of the Maldives ACC, and Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, President of the Saudi Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority, who will share insights on the growing need for collaborative action in curbing corruption across tourism-dependent nations. The forum will feature a series of sessions that delve into practical measures for improving accountability, policy reform, and international cooperation in the fight against corruption.

Contributions from global institutions such as Interpol, the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will enrich the discussions with international perspectives on governance, transparency, and regulatory systems. UNDP will also host a dedicated panel bringing together renowned experts to exchange best practices for promoting ethical standards in public and private tourism operations.

Ms. Fathimath Ibna, Director of Prevention at the Maldives ACC, highlighted the forum’s broader objective of fostering collaboration among Islamic nations in combating corruption and advancing good governance. She emphasized that by reinforcing integrity in the tourism industry, countries can build trust and promote sustainable development.

The forum is accessible to both on-site and remote participants, allowing a global audience to engage with the timely and critical discussions. This international gathering not only marks a significant milestone in the Maldives’ anti-corruption efforts but also positions the island nation as a leader in advocating for transparency and responsible tourism across the Islamic world.
