Sun Siyam Olhuveli, part of the Lifestyle Collection within the House of Siyam, marked Earth Day with the launch of its newest marine conservation initiative, the Adopt A Coral Frame experience, during a special morning event held on 22 April at Milano Beach on Dream Island. Set within the resort’s scenic island surroundings, the launch highlighted Sun Siyam Olhuveli’s continued dedication to marine preservation while creating meaningful opportunities for guests to connect with the natural beauty of the Maldives in a more purposeful way.

Framed by clear turquoise waters and the tranquil setting of Dream Island, the event introduced guests to an immersive coral restoration experience designed to deepen appreciation for the ocean and its fragile ecosystems. Through the Adopt A Coral Frame programme, guests are invited to play an active role in nurturing new coral growth by attaching coral fragments onto specially selected frames, which are then carefully placed in the lagoon to contribute to the development of a thriving new reef.

The initiative begins with the careful collection of healthy coral fragments under the guidance of the resort’s marine biologist. These fragments are then secured onto coral frames and positioned in selected areas within the resort’s coral garden, where environmental conditions are favourable for natural growth and the support of marine biodiversity. Guests who adopt a coral frame are able to participate in the planting process themselves, creating a memorable and personal connection with the reef restoration journey. To ensure that this connection continues well beyond their stay, guests also receive progress updates, including photographs shared every six months, allowing them to follow the development of the coral they helped nurture.

Coral reefs are among the most important ecosystems in the ocean, supporting an extraordinary range of marine life, helping to protect shorelines, and maintaining ecological balance beneath the surface. By introducing the Adopt A Coral Frame experience, Sun Siyam Olhuveli brings the importance of reef conservation closer to its guests in a way that is both accessible and rewarding. The initiative reflects a growing interest among travellers in experiences that combine leisure with environmental awareness, particularly in destinations such as the Maldives, where the health of coral reefs is closely tied to the identity and sustainability of island life.

Chaminda Upul, Group Sustainability Manager for Sun Siyam, said Earth Day serves as a timely reminder that even small actions can contribute to something much greater. He noted that the Adopt A Coral Frame experience was created to give guests an opportunity to leave a positive impact on the ocean through an activity that is simple, meaningful, and memorable.

Hassan Adil, General Manager of Sun Siyam Olhuveli, said the resort believes the most memorable experiences are those that remain with guests long after their holiday ends. He added that the Adopt A Coral initiative reflects the resort’s intention to invite visitors to become part of something lasting while also caring for the natural beauty that defines the destination.

Part of the proceeds from every coral adoption will support Sun Siyam Care, the group’s sustainability platform, contributing directly to ongoing marine conservation initiatives and long-term reef restoration efforts. This added dimension strengthens the programme’s impact by linking guest participation with wider environmental action, ensuring that each adoption supports a broader vision for ocean stewardship.

Renowned for its expansive white-sand beaches, vibrant lagoon, and contemporary island lifestyle experiences, Sun Siyam Olhuveli continues to position itself as a resort where relaxation, discovery, and responsible travel come together naturally. The introduction of the Adopt A Coral Frame experience further enriches the resort’s appeal for international travellers seeking not only the beauty of a Maldivian island escape, but also authentic experiences that create a lasting sense of connection to place. By blending conservation with guest engagement in such a thoughtful setting, Sun Siyam Olhuveli has added another meaningful dimension to its resort experience while reinforcing the Maldives’ growing reputation as a destination that values both luxury and environmental responsibility.
