The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that the Religious Waqf Fund administered under the Ministry will extend financial support for the establishment of a dedicated Quran Learning Center in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll. The assistance aims to strengthen the island’s ongoing efforts in nurturing young Quran memorizers (Huffaz) and to support the establishment of the first dedicated Hifz Centre in the Maldives.

Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed shared the news following a request submitted by the Naifaru Island Council seeking support for the project. He highlighted that Naifaru has shown significant progress in producing young individuals who have committed the Quran to memory. Naifaru has earned national recognition for its outstanding contribution to Quranic education, as the island produced the highest number of graduates from a single location at a recent ceremony honouring Hafiz students across the Maldives. Six students from Naifaru were celebrated after successfully completing the memorisation of the Holy Quran, a significant achievement both for the island and the wider community. Recognizing this achievement, the Ministry has decided to assist in formalising and expanding these efforts through the Waqf Fund.

Once completed, the Naifaru Hifz Centre will be the first of its kind in the Maldives specifically designed for structured Quran memorisation. This development marks an important step in enhancing religious education and creating accessible opportunities for students pursuing Quranic studies on the islands.

In addition to the Naifaru initiative, Minister Dr. Shaheem stated that the Ministry will continue to implement Quran memorisation programmes in mosques across islands that do not have specialised Islamic centres. He also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting both private Quran classes and government agencies engaged in Hifz programmes throughout the country.

The Religious Waqf Fund, managed under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, plays a central role in financing religious and community development projects. The support for Naifaru’s Quran Centre demonstrates the Ministry’s continued efforts to promote Islamic education and uphold the values of the Holy Quran within Maldivian society.
