The Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives hosted a series of events to mark Pakistan Day, an occasion commemorated annually on March 23 to honor the historic Lahore Resolution of 1940 and the adoption of Pakistan’s first constitution in 1956. The celebration reflects not only the historical significance of the day but also the enduring partnership between Pakistan and the Maldives.
A ceremonial flag hoisting took place earlier this week, led by Vice Admiral (Retired) Faisal Rasul Lodhi, High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives. The event drew participation from members of the Pakistani community living in the Maldives, showcasing a collective spirit of patriotism and unity among expatriates.
To mark the occasion, the High Commission also hosted a special Iftar gathering at Hulhule Island Hotel, bringing together high-ranking Maldivian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, corporate representatives, and the Pakistani diaspora. Among the notable attendees was the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, who addressed the gathering with appreciation for Pakistan’s long-standing support in various sectors including healthcare, education, defense, and socio-economic development.
Dr. Khaleel emphasized the importance of reinforcing the strong bilateral relationship, expressing confidence that both nations will continue to expand their cooperation across key areas. His remarks highlighted the mutual commitment to fostering a deeper and more productive partnership built on shared goals and regional harmony.
High Commissioner Vice Admiral (Retd) Lodhi noted that the connection between Pakistan and the Maldives is rooted in common cultural and religious heritage, underscoring a relationship that has matured through years of collaboration and goodwill. He affirmed that the High Commission is actively engaged with Maldivian ministries and institutions to broaden the scope of joint initiatives and people-to-people exchanges.
Pakistan Day is a reflection of the nation’s historical journey toward independence and self-governance, anchored by the Lahore Resolution which laid the foundation for the creation of Pakistan. The occasion also honors the adoption of Pakistan’s first constitution in 1956, marking its transition into a republic. This year’s observance in the Maldives served as a symbol of unity and friendship between two nations with a history of close diplomatic ties.
