Marking a significant stride in the country’s healthcare and aviation sectors, Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives celebrated the first anniversary of its dedicated Air Ambulance service with a commemorative event at Velana International Airport’s North Apron. The ceremony was graced by high-ranking officials, including Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Captain Mohamed Ameen and Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, underscoring the national importance of the milestone.
Since commencing operations on 1st March 2023, the Air Ambulance service has completed an impressive 787 medical evacuation flights, assisting a total of 931 patients across the Maldives. The service, which operates around the clock, plays a crucial role in providing rapid medical transport for individuals in need of urgent care, particularly in remote islands where access to tertiary healthcare facilities can be limited.
This vital initiative is the result of close collaboration among several government bodies and agencies, including the Ministry of Health, Emergency Medical Services, the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), and Asandha Company Limited. Together, they have helped establish a well-coordinated emergency response system, offering life-saving support when every second counts.
The Air Ambulance fleet is fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical tools and staffed by trained professionals to ensure that patients receive immediate and continuous medical attention while in transit. From critical care cases to patients requiring swift transfer to specialty hospitals, the service has become a lifeline for many Maldivians.
Officials from Maldivian emphasized that the service’s success is a testament to the strong partnership between the health and aviation sectors.
