The Maldives is making a significant impact at ITB Berlin 2025, strengthening its position as one of the world’s most sought-after travel destinations. The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has assembled a robust delegation of 200 industry representatives from 89 tourism-related companies to showcase the island nation’s unparalleled natural beauty and diverse travel experiences. This strategic participation underscores the Maldives’ commitment to attracting more visitors from German-speaking markets and beyond.

Held from March 4th to 6th at Messe Berlin, ITB Berlin is one of the world’s premier travel trade fairs, providing a crucial platform for networking, business collaborations, and destination marketing. The Maldives is being showcased at an expansive 504-square-meter double-decker stand designed to facilitate seamless engagement with travel trade professionals and media. The stand features dedicated spaces for industry meetings, a VIP lounge, a traditional Maldivian corner, and interactive elements such as a 360-degree photo booth. Visit Maldives is also hosting a special seminar titled “The Next Chapter of Maldives Tourism – Berlin Edition”, focusing on government and industry initiatives to tap into new market segments, boost tourism bookings, and advance sustainable travel efforts.

MMPRC’s strategy at ITB Berlin revolves around fostering strong partnerships with leading tour operators, travel agencies, and media outlets. One-on-one meetings offer co-exhibitors the opportunity to highlight Maldives’ diverse tourism offerings, from luxury resorts and guesthouses to diving excursions and liveaboards. With a growing global shift toward eco-conscious travel, the Maldives is emphasizing its sustainability initiatives, promoting nature-focused experiences that align with responsible tourism trends. To enhance its appeal among German travelers, all promotional campaigns are being conducted in the German language, ensuring a deeper connection with the audience.

Germany continues to be one of the Maldives’ key tourism markets, with 157,246 visitors in 2024, making it the fourth-largest source market globally. Switzerland and Austria also play an important role, contributing 41,062 and 29,425 arrivals, respectively. By the end of February 2025, 14,119 tourists from Germany, 4,401 from Austria, and 5,399 from Switzerland had already visited the Maldives. Following the milestone achievement of welcoming over two million visitors in 2024, MMPRC is focused on sustaining this momentum through strategic marketing partnerships, public relations campaigns, and joint promotional efforts with major travel operators such as TUI and DER Touristik.

To further solidify its presence in the German-speaking market, MMPRC has been actively engaging in high-profile marketing initiatives in 2025. This includes a raffle sponsorship with Edelweiss Airlines at Art on Ice in Switzerland, a large-scale advertising campaign at Berlinale, and an outdoor taxi promotion in Germany. Future initiatives include the much-anticipated Visit Maldives Week in Munich, Frankfurt, and Zurich, exclusive media familiarization trips for top-tier journalists, targeted webinar sessions, and joint promotional campaigns with online travel agencies and consumer brands.

Additionally, MMPRC has strengthened its connections with media professionals through its participation in the International Media Marketplace (IMM) 2025, held on March 3rd in Berlin. IMM is a global networking event that brings together travel industry leaders and media representatives, providing an invaluable opportunity to showcase the Maldives to journalists, broadcasters, and influencers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. MMPRC used this platform to build strong media relationships, share the latest tourism updates, and promote the country’s diverse travel experiences.

As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance global connectivity and attract high-value travelers, MMPRC has also announced an upcoming conversion-focused campaign with TUI, one of the world’s leading travel operators. Further initiatives include strategic advertising in luxury travel publications, joint marketing ventures, and participation in key industry events to ensure sustained visitor interest.

By maintaining a strong presence at ITB Berlin 2025 and executing dynamic promotional campaigns, MMPRC is reinforcing the Maldives’ reputation as a top-tier, safe, and sustainable holiday destination. With a focused approach on engaging the German-speaking market, the Maldives is set to further solidify its status as the ultimate tropical paradise for travelers worldwide.
