The Maldives, renowned for its pristine white sand beaches and luxurious overwater resorts, is set to receive a major boost in global tourism promotion through a strategic collaboration between the Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and Booking.com. The two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the visibility of the Maldives as a leading travel destination by leveraging Booking.com’s expansive reach and digital marketing expertise.
The agreement, which will be in effect from March 1, 2025, to March 1, 2027, lays the foundation for joint marketing initiatives, strategic partnerships, and promotional campaigns aimed at driving a surge in international tourist arrivals. The partnership also seeks to optimize the presence of Maldivian tourism offerings on Booking.com, ensuring that travelers worldwide have better access to the country’s diverse experiences. Additionally, skill-building workshops will be conducted to enhance the capabilities of accommodation providers, further strengthening the tourism infrastructure in the Maldives.
Highlighting the significance of this collaboration, MMPRC’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shiuree, emphasized that this partnership is a pivotal move in broadening the global appeal of the Maldives. He noted that by harnessing the extensive digital marketing network of Booking.com, the Maldives can significantly increase visitor numbers while promoting the country as a destination that offers much more than its traditional sun, sand, and sea allure. This initiative aligns with MMPRC’s broader vision of positioning the Maldives as a multi-faceted tourism hotspot, attracting travelers interested in cultural experiences, wellness retreats, and sustainable tourism.
As part of its contribution, Booking.com will provide extensive training on supply chain optimization for accommodation partners and MMPRC staff, ensuring they stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry. The company will also support MMPRC’s marketing campaigns with interactive promotional activities and share valuable travel trend insights, adhering to data privacy regulations, to refine tourism strategies. Furthermore, Booking.com will play an active role in promoting sustainable tourism practices, aligning with the Maldives’ long-term commitment to environmental conservation and responsible travel.
