As per the latest data released by the ministry of tourism, China ranks second with 154,927 arrivals annually, and Russia remains the top market with 162,441 arrivals annually.
India, which was formerly in second place, is now in third place with 154,016 annual arrivals.
In the Maldives, the tourist markets of Russia and China account for 11.5 percent and 11 percent of the total, respectively, with India accounting for 10.9 percent of arrivals.
With 111,880 arrivals so far in 2023, the United Kingdom (UK) is in fourth place, and Germany is in fifth place with 96,791 yearly arrivals.
With 85,934 arrivals, Italy ranks lowest among the top five markets. The USA comes in second with 55,363 arrivals, followed by France with 38,139 arrivals, Spain with 29,992 arrivals, and Switzerland with 27,154 arrivals.
As of October 11, the nation had welcomed 1,412,062 tourists, compared to the government’s target of 1.9 million annual arrivals in 2023.
The Maldives has seen a total of 500,000 tourist arrivals, falling short of the annual target. To meet the annual arrival target, the nation must bring in more than 200,000 tourists in the next two months.
For the first nine months of 2023, the nation saw more than 120,000 visitors per month, with every month showing positive growth except for May.
Furthermore, as of the last review date, there had been a 0.1 percent decrease in October tourist arrivals when compared to the same period the previous year. The Maldives recorded 51,079 tourist arrivals in October 2022; by contrast, 51,014 tourists arrived during the same period this year.
