The Magoodhoo Airport was formally turned over to the Regional Airports Company as a result of a recent agreement with the Finance Ministry.

With a total investment of MVR 200 million, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) built the airport. Originally, the runway was intended to be 1,200 meters long. The runway has been expanded to 1800 meters in accordance with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s directives.

The Regional Airports Company reports that vital buildings including the passenger terminal and the fire building are finished, and that the remaining jobs are now being finalized. The development includes plans for a jet fuel farm and a jet parking facility, both of which should be finished in the first quarter of 2024.

Apart from aviation amenities, the proposal encompasses the creation of a hotel designed to accommodate members of the jet crew. Barring unanticipated delays, the Regional Airports Company is optimistic that the airport might open for business in January of the following year.

Additionally, the Regional Airports Company has confirmed that the airport project in Muli, Meemu Atoll is proceeding according to plan and should be finished in time for the first quarter of the next year.
