The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has launched a new Money Changer System, introducing a digital platform designed to modernise transaction recording and regulatory reporting across the country’s licensed money changing sector.
The system was officially launched by the Deputy Governor of the MMA and represents another important step in the Maldives’ wider drive towards digitalisation, automation and more efficient financial sector operations. By replacing more conventional reporting processes with a streamlined digital platform, the system is expected to make regulatory compliance easier while improving the accuracy, consistency and timeliness of information submitted to the central bank.
Under the new platform, licensed money changers will be able to record transactions and fulfil reporting requirements through a more organised digital process, helping businesses reduce administrative workload and improve day-to-day operational efficiency. The system will also strengthen oversight of the sector by providing a clearer and more structured framework for transaction reporting.
The Money Changer System will become mandatory for all licensed money changers in the Maldives from 1 December 2026, giving operators a unified platform through which to meet their regulatory obligations.
The introduction of the system reflects the Government and the MMA’s continued focus on strengthening the country’s financial infrastructure through technology, transparency and efficient regulation. As the Maldives continues to expand its digital economy and strengthen services supporting tourism, trade and international financial transactions, modernised systems such as this are expected to contribute to greater confidence, efficiency and integrity across the financial sector.
