Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced Maldivian Journey+, a new portfolio of optional travel services aimed at providing passengers with greater flexibility, convenience and comfort throughout their journey.

The new service has been developed in response to increasing passenger demand for more personalised travel experiences, giving customers the ability to select additional services based on their individual travel requirements. Journey+ brings a range of passenger-focused options together under a single sub-brand, simplifying the process of customising different stages of travel from check-in through to arrival.

The introduction of Journey+ further strengthens Maldivian’s passenger service offering as the airline continues to enhance its domestic and international operations. As the national carrier, Maldivian plays an important role in connecting communities across the archipelago while also supporting international travel and the wider tourism industry of the Maldives. The addition of flexible supplementary services provides passengers with more control over their travel arrangements while enabling the airline to respond to changing expectations within the global aviation industry.

The first phase of Maldivian Journey+ introduces five services covering priority airport services, additional baggage, lounge access, cabin upgrades and onboard refreshments.

Journey+ Premier provides domestic passengers with priority check-in and priority baggage handling, helping create a more efficient airport experience. International passengers using the service can also benefit from priority boarding, providing additional convenience before departure.

Journey+ Bags allows passengers to purchase additional baggage allowance in advance at preferential rates. The option is expected to provide greater convenience for travellers who require more baggage capacity while allowing them to plan their travel costs before arriving at the airport.

Journey+ Relax gives eligible passengers access to selected Maldivian lounges, providing a more comfortable environment before their flight. Lounge access adds another level of convenience for passengers seeking a quieter and more relaxed pre-departure experience, particularly during longer journeys or connecting travel.

Journey+ Upgrade provides international passengers with the opportunity to upgrade to a higher cabin class on selected Maldivian international services, subject to availability. The service allows travellers to enhance their onboard experience while providing additional flexibility in how they choose to travel.

Domestic passengers can also use Journey+ Bites, which enables travellers to pre-order a snack and beverage combination for their flight. The service expands the range of optional conveniences available on domestic journeys and allows passengers to arrange refreshments before departure.

Maldivian said the Journey+ concept brings together several services that passengers have requested over time and makes them easier to access through a single service portfolio. The airline expects the initiative to provide travellers with greater freedom to determine which additional services are most relevant to their individual journeys.

Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian, said Journey+ had been developed around the changing expectations of passengers and their growing preference for more choice and flexibility when travelling.

“Maldivian Journey+ has been developed around the evolving needs of our passengers and their desire for greater choice and flexibility when they travel with us,” Iyas said. “Many of these services have been requested by our passengers for some time, and with Journey+, we are bringing them together under one service that allows customers to personalise their journey based on what matters most to them.”

Journey+ services can be purchased through several Maldivian sales and customer service channels, including the airline’s Call Centre, Viber, WhatsApp, Ticketing Office, Passenger Sales Agents and General Sales Agents. Passengers can purchase the available Journey+ services up to 24 hours before their scheduled departure.

The current introduction represents the first phase of Maldivian Journey+, with the national airline already planning additional services under Phase 2. Future additions are expected to include seat selection together with further passenger options designed to provide travellers with greater control over their overall journey.

The continued expansion of Journey+ is expected to strengthen Maldivian’s ability to serve different categories of travellers, including residents travelling between the islands, business passengers and international visitors travelling to and from the Maldives. By allowing passengers to select services according to their own priorities, the airline is developing a more flexible service model while maintaining its central role in the country’s aviation and connectivity network.

For the Maldives, where reliable air transport remains essential to domestic mobility and the tourism economy, improvements to the national airline’s passenger experience also contribute to the broader development of the country’s transport infrastructure and international accessibility. Maldivian’s continued investment in customer-focused services complements the Maldives’ efforts to strengthen connectivity and provide a high-quality travel experience for both residents and visitors.

As further Journey+ services are introduced, Maldivian is positioning the programme as an expanding platform through which passengers can increasingly personalise their journeys, whether their priorities are additional baggage, faster airport processing, lounge access, upgraded travel or greater onboard convenience.
