Award-winning Danish chef Jesper Koch is set to return to Vakkaru Maldives from 26 October to 5 November 2026, continuing a culinary collaboration that began during his first visit to the luxury island resort earlier this year. The upcoming programme will bring Chef Jesper’s internationally recognised culinary expertise directly to guests through a series of specially curated dining experiences, further strengthening Vakkaru Maldives’ reputation for distinctive gastronomy and world-class hospitality.

Chef Jesper first visited Vakkaru Maldives in July 2026, spending nearly two weeks working closely with the resort’s culinary and service teams. His initial residency focused on professional knowledge sharing, creative collaboration and the exchange of culinary ideas, allowing the visiting chef and Vakkaru’s team to explore how his Danish and Nordic culinary background could be combined with the natural ingredients, flavours and character of the Maldives. The experience established the foundation for his return later this year, when the collaboration will progress from culinary development to a series of experiences presented directly to resort guests.

A central feature of Chef Jesper’s second visit will be three exclusive five-course tasting-menu evenings scheduled for 29 October, 1 November and 3 November at Vakkaru Reserve, one of the resort’s acclaimed dining venues. The dinners will showcase the results of the collaboration between Chef Jesper and Vakkaru Maldives’ culinary team, presenting thoughtfully developed menus inspired by Nordic culinary traditions while incorporating the distinctive character of the Maldives.

The menus will feature locally sourced ingredients wherever appropriate, including fresh produce cultivated at Vakkaru’s Organic Farm, locally sourced seafood and regional influences that complement Chef Jesper’s contemporary approach to cooking. By combining international culinary expertise with ingredients connected to the destination, the programme is expected to provide guests with a dining experience that reflects both Chef Jesper’s culinary identity and the natural richness of the Maldives.

Chef Jesper said his return represents a natural continuation of the relationship developed with the Vakkaru Maldives team during his July visit. He noted that his first stay provided an opportunity to work closely with the resort’s professionals, exchange ideas and gain a deeper understanding of the spirit of Vakkaru. He added that he looks forward to returning to the kitchen and presenting the results of the collaboration to guests through the specially curated dinners.

Vakkaru Maldives General Manager Teddy Susanto Wiryawan said Chef Jesper’s initial visit enabled the resort to establish a strong professional connection and develop the foundations of the collaboration. He said the chef’s return will now allow guests to experience his distinctive approach to cooking while demonstrating what can be achieved when two culinary teams work together with a shared commitment to hospitality and culinary excellence.

Regarded as one of Denmark’s influential gastronomic figures, Chef Jesper brings more than three decades of experience across hospitality, gastronomy and entrepreneurship. His career has been distinguished by a combination of Nordic culinary traditions, contemporary techniques and an individual approach to flavour that has earned recognition within Denmark and internationally.

Among his notable achievements, Chef Jesper led Restaurant Syttende to Michelin recognition, has been named Danish Chef of the Year and represented Denmark at the prestigious Bocuse d’Or culinary competition. He has also received an Honorary Diploma from the Danish Gastronomic Academy and was recognised as “Chef’s Chef” by the Danish Gastronomy Foundation. Beyond professional kitchens, he has gained widespread public recognition through his long-standing role as a judge on the Danish edition of MasterChef.

Situated within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Vakkaru Maldives offers a luxury island experience surrounded by the natural beauty and biodiversity for which the atoll is internationally recognised. The resort continues to enhance its culinary offering by collaborating with leading chefs and hospitality professionals from around the world, providing guests with opportunities to experience international culinary concepts within the distinctive environment of the Maldives.

The return of Chef Jesper Koch further reflects Vakkaru Maldives’ commitment to developing memorable guest experiences through culinary innovation, professional collaboration and the use of locally connected ingredients. Such international partnerships also contribute to the Maldives’ wider reputation as a premium global tourism destination, complementing the country’s continued efforts to strengthen its high-value hospitality sector and showcase the diversity, quality and sophistication of the Maldivian tourism product to international travellers.

Chef Jesper’s upcoming residency represents the next stage of a partnership that began through professional exchange and creative development and will now be presented through a series of carefully crafted dining experiences. With internationally acclaimed culinary talent increasingly collaborating with resorts across the country, initiatives such as Vakkaru Maldives’ programme continue to broaden the experiences available to visitors and reinforce the Maldives’ position among the world’s most distinctive luxury destinations.
