The Maldives is set to host the Regional Green Economy Forum 2026 from 29 to 30 July, bringing together senior government representatives, international organisations, private sector leaders and environmental experts for high-level discussions on sustainability and resilience in the Asia-Pacific region. The forum will be organised by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy in partnership with the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), and will take place at Kurumba Maldives.
Held under the theme “Shaping a Sustainable and Resilient Future for the Asia-Pacific,” the forum is expected to serve as an important platform for dialogue on the region’s shared environmental priorities and economic opportunities. Discussions will focus on practical strategies to support sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific, with particular attention to the needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and coastal economies that face increasing climate-related challenges. The programme will also explore ways to attract green investment, strengthen public-private partnerships, expand digital and technological solutions, and advance the Blue Economy Roadmap.
The event reflects the Maldives’ growing role in international climate and sustainability discussions, especially as island nations continue to advocate for stronger cooperation and more inclusive development pathways. By bringing together a wide range of stakeholders, the forum is expected to encourage collaboration on solutions that promote economic resilience, environmental responsibility and long-term prosperity for communities across the region. It is also intended to help shape regional priorities ahead of COP31 and the World Green Economy Summit, further strengthening the Asia-Pacific voice in global environmental dialogue.
This year’s gathering follows the inaugural Regional Green Economy Forum held in Tangier, Morocco, last year under the theme “Carbon Neutral Cities.” Building on that foundation, the Maldives edition is expected to broaden the conversation by highlighting the opportunities and policy approaches needed to support a more resilient regional future, particularly for island and coastal states navigating the effects of climate change while pursuing sustainable economic growth.
Kurumba Maldives, the venue for the forum, provides a fitting setting for a meeting of this nature. Known internationally as one of the Maldives’ distinguished resort destinations, Kurumba offers an environment that reflects both the natural beauty of the country and the importance of protecting fragile island ecosystems. Hosting the forum at such a venue is expected to reinforce the broader message of balancing economic progress with environmental stewardship, while also showcasing the Maldives as a destination capable of convening meaningful regional and international dialogue on green development.
The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has also opened registration for participants, with access provided through a QR code shared on the ministry’s social media platforms. With regional and international interest expected to be strong, the forum is anticipated to draw wide participation from policymakers, institutions and professionals committed to advancing a sustainable and resilient future for the Asia-Pacific.
