The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced a public initiative inviting individuals to share historical photographs connected to the institution as part of an ongoing effort to document and preserve its institutional history. The initiative forms part of a broader archival project through which the central bank aims to compile a comprehensive publication that reflects the development and milestones of the authority over the years.
In its announcement, the central bank encouraged members of the public who may possess historical images associated with the Maldives Monetary Authority to submit them for consideration in a book currently being prepared to chronicle the organisation’s past. The planned publication is expected to highlight significant stages in the evolution of the authority and provide visual documentation of key moments that have shaped the country’s monetary and financial landscape.
The MMA stated that the initiative seeks to gather visual materials that capture the institution’s earlier years and institutional growth, including photographs that may exist within personal archives of former employees, stakeholders, or members of the public who may have preserved images related to the authority’s activities. These materials are expected to contribute to building a historical record that reflects the development of the Maldives’ financial system and the central bank’s role in supporting economic governance and monetary stability.
According to the authority, individuals wishing to contribute photographs can submit their materials via email to [email protected] before 3:00 PM on the 24th of this month. The central bank emphasised that the call for photographs is intended to expand the scope of historical documentation available for the project and to ensure that the institutional archive includes diverse visual records connected to different periods of its history.
The Maldives Monetary Authority further noted that any photographs submitted will only be used following consultation and mutual agreement with the respective owners. This process is designed to ensure that the use of historical materials is conducted with full consent from contributors while also preserving the integrity and authenticity of the archive.
Through this initiative, the central bank is encouraging individuals who may have photographs from earlier periods connected to the authority’s work, events, or institutional developments to share them within the specified deadline. The project is expected to support efforts to preserve important historical materials and create a lasting record of the Maldives Monetary Authority’s contribution to the nation’s economic and financial development.
The planned publication will document the progression of the Maldives Monetary Authority from its early years to the present day, highlighting important developments in the country’s monetary and financial framework. By bringing together archival photographs and historical narratives, the project aims to provide a comprehensive account of the institution’s role in shaping the financial sector of the Maldives while preserving valuable historical material for future generations.
