Vakkaru Maldives has announced the upcoming residency of internationally recognised holistic practitioner Yoko Kawaguchi at Merana Spa, scheduled to take place from 17 March to 30 April 2026, further strengthening the resort’s commitment to wellness, restoration and mindful living. The residency reflects the resort’s continued dedication to offering meaningful wellbeing experiences that complement its tranquil island environment and refined hospitality, positioning Vakkaru Maldives as a destination where guests can reconnect with balance while enjoying the natural beauty of the Maldives.
Rooted in Japanese healing traditions, Kawaguchi’s therapeutic philosophy focuses on personalised care that aims to calm the nervous system, release emotional tension and support the body’s natural restorative processes. Her integrative methodology combines auriculotherapy, aromatherapy, Reiki energy healing and specialised massage techniques, allowing each treatment to be tailored according to individual needs and wellbeing goals. By blending traditional knowledge with contemporary wellness practices, the residency introduces guests to a holistic approach that addresses both physical relaxation and emotional wellbeing in a calm and supportive setting.
During the residency, guests will have access to a curated selection of signature therapies designed to enhance relaxation and mental clarity. Among the featured experiences is the Tranquil Mind treatment, which incorporates scalp massage, ear reflexology and energy-based techniques to ease accumulated tension and promote emotional balance. The Aroma Reiki Healing Touch session combines aromatherapy back massage with carefully selected essential oils and Usui Reiki techniques, supporting the release of physical discomfort while encouraging emotional harmony. Auriculotherapy sessions will also be available, focusing on stimulating reflex points within the ears to assist hormonal balance, strengthen immunity, regulate the nervous system and support overall wellbeing. Optional ear seeds may be provided to help extend the therapeutic benefits beyond the session itself.
In addition to individual treatments, Kawaguchi will conduct complimentary consultations alongside a series of guided group wellness experiences. These sessions include Reiki self-healing meditation and ear stretching massage practices that encourage relaxation and mental clarity while equipping guests with simple techniques they can continue to use after their stay. The programme is designed to create an accessible and supportive wellness environment, enabling visitors to incorporate mindful practices into their daily routines long after leaving the island.
The residency will be hosted within the serene surroundings of Merana Spa, an integral part of the Vakkaru Maldives experience. Set amid lush tropical vegetation and overlooking the turquoise waters of Baa Atoll, the spa is designed to harmonise with the island’s natural landscape, offering private treatment villas, calming spaces and a peaceful atmosphere that enhances relaxation. Vakkaru Maldives is widely recognised for its understated luxury, spacious overwater and beach villas, attentive service and curated guest experiences that celebrate both comfort and authenticity. By integrating specialised wellness programmes with its broader hospitality offering, the resort continues to provide guests with opportunities to pause from daily pressures, restore balance and embrace a deeper sense of wellbeing during their stay in the Maldives.
