Ooredoo Maldives has announced the appointment of Shadi Qawasmi as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 February 2026, marking a new phase in the company’s leadership as it continues to strengthen its position within the Maldives’ rapidly evolving digital and telecommunications landscape.
Qawasmi brings with him more than a decade of professional experience spanning telecommunications, corporate strategy, and brand management. He joined the Ooredoo Group in 2015 and has since held several senior leadership roles at Ooredoo Palestine, including Chief Commercial Officer, Sales Director, and Head of Brand and Communications. Throughout his tenure, he has been closely involved in driving market expansion initiatives, overseeing technology rollouts, and supporting organisational restructuring efforts, contributing to improved commercial performance and stronger brand positioning. Prior to joining the Group, Qawasmi built a diverse background in management consulting, business development, and integrated marketing communications, where he advised organisations on growth strategies, digital transformation, and market development.
Academically, Qawasmi holds a Master’s degree in Marketing Management from EDHEC Business School in France and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Communications from Brigham Young University in the United States. His academic and professional profile reflects a strong foundation in both strategic thinking and execution, which is expected to support Ooredoo Maldives’ ongoing efforts to expand digital services and enhance customer experience across consumer and enterprise segments.
The appointment follows the conclusion of the tenure of Khalid Hassan M A Al-Hamadi, under whose leadership Ooredoo Maldives achieved significant progress in network expansion and platform development. During this period, the company rolled out nationwide 4G+ coverage, expanded its 5G footprint, deployed the PEACE submarine cable to strengthen international connectivity, and introduced new digital platforms and strategic partnerships. The opening of the company’s headquarters in Hulhumalé and the advancement of multiple corporate social responsibility initiatives further reinforced Ooredoo Maldives’ role as a key contributor to national development.
In its statement, Ooredoo Maldives noted that the leadership transition aligns with the company’s continued focus on advancing digital services, enhancing network capabilities, and strengthening enterprise solutions to meet the growing needs of individuals, businesses, and government institutions. As of 31 December 2025, the company reported revenues of MVR 2.22 billion and a profit after tax of MVR 727 million, reflecting solid financial performance and sustained market confidence. Ooredoo Maldives is listed on the Maldives Stock Exchange, underscoring its standing as one of the country’s leading publicly traded companies.
With Qawasmi assuming leadership, Ooredoo Maldives is expected to continue building on its strong foundation, supporting the Maldives’ digital transformation agenda while delivering innovative, reliable, and future-ready connectivity solutions for a global and increasingly connected audience.
