A high-level delegation from the Maldives has held productive discussions with the Sultanate of Oman on strengthening bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on advancing energy projects in the Maldives alongside broader economic and trade collaboration. The discussions took place during an official visit to Oman by the Maldives’ Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, who met with Oman’s Minister of Finance, Sultan bin Salim bin Said Al Habsi, reflecting the shared commitment of both nations to deepen strategic economic ties.

During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged views on enhancing trade relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest, including maritime activities and fisheries. These areas were highlighted as important pillars for sustainable economic growth, given the strong maritime heritage and strategic geographic positions of both countries. The dialogue also underscored the potential for knowledge-sharing and joint initiatives that could contribute to long-term resilience and diversification of their respective economies.

A significant part of the discussions focused on collaboration in energy projects in the Maldives, an area of growing importance as the country continues to strengthen its energy security and sustainability agenda. The exploration of energy partnerships was viewed as particularly relevant to supporting the Maldives’ tourism-driven economy, including its world-renowned resort sector, which increasingly prioritizes reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible energy solutions. Advancing energy infrastructure and innovation is expected to enhance operational efficiency across resorts while aligning with global sustainability expectations, thereby reinforcing the Maldives’ position as a leading destination for responsible and high-quality tourism.

Beyond the priority sectors, the meeting also provided an opportunity to explore additional avenues for cooperation that could further enhance economic partnership between the Maldives and Oman. Both sides expressed a positive outlook on expanding collaboration through mutually beneficial projects, strengthened institutional links, and continued high-level engagement. The discussions reflected a shared vision of fostering stable, forward-looking partnerships that contribute to economic growth, sustainable development, and stronger ties between the two nations, while presenting a positive narrative to global partners and investors.
