Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) has announced a series of measures for 2026 designed to increase participation from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the tourism sector, with a strong focus on enhancing the visibility of resorts, guesthouses, liveaboards, and travel agencies in key international markets. The initiative underlines VMC’s commitment to supporting smaller operators while sustaining robust destination marketing efforts in collaboration with local NGOs and industry partners.

As part of the 2026 framework, VMC will introduce more accessible and lower-priced membership options, allowing a wider range of SMEs from across the Maldives to become part of its marketing network. This approach is intended to ensure that every segment of the tourism industry—from major resort brands to family-run guesthouses and specialist travel agencies has the opportunity to contribute to and benefit from global promotional activities for the Maldives. By widening the base of industry partners engaged in its campaigns, VMC aims to create a more inclusive and diversified representation of the country’s tourism offerings.

A key component of the new measures is the reduction of participation fees for roadshows and promotional activities for resorts, guesthouses, travel agencies, and liveaboards. For resorts in particular, this is expected to make it more feasible to maintain a consistent presence at international trade fairs, roadshows, and B2B networking events, where they can directly engage with tour operators, travel advisors, and media. Lower barriers to entry and participation are anticipated to be especially valuable for independent and boutique resorts that may previously have faced budget constraints in accessing high-profile promotional platforms.

Recognising the growing importance of digital engagement and remote participation, VMC will also offer flexible non-physical participation options. These include digital showcases, representation services, and shared lead-generation support, enabling SMEs to engage with international markets without the need to travel overseas. For resorts, this provides an opportunity to showcase their unique concepts, product offerings, and guest experiences through curated digital content, virtual meetings, and targeted lead management, ensuring continued market presence even when physical attendance at events is not possible.

To further strengthen the marketing capabilities of its partners, VMC will facilitate content trips and high-quality content-sharing initiatives. Through these efforts, resorts and guesthouses will gain access to professional marketing assets, including photography, videography, and destination storytelling materials that align with the Maldives’ overall brand positioning. This not only enriches the national destination content library but also enhances the individual visibility of participating properties, enabling resorts and other operators to refresh their brand communications, strengthen their online presence, and better appeal to evolving traveller preferences in key source markets.
