A high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has arrived in the Maldives to participate in the country’s second Hajj and Umrah Conference, scheduled for the 11th of this month. The delegation is led by Bandar bin Abdullah Al-Rajhi, Chairman of the Al-Safwa Foundation in Saudi Arabia, accompanied by several senior officials from the organization, underscoring the growing engagement between Saudi institutions and Maldivian stakeholders involved in pilgrimage services.

During the visit, Chairman Al-Rajhi will hold an official meeting with the Minister of Islamic Affairs to discuss areas of collaboration in enhancing the quality, accessibility, and governance of Hajj and Umrah services for Maldivian pilgrims. He will also engage with members of the Supreme Council for Islamic Fatwa to exchange views on regulatory, Shariah, and operational aspects of pilgrimage management, which are central to ensuring that services offered to Maldivians remain both compliant and reliable.

As part of the programme, arrangements have been made for the delegation to visit the National Centre for the Holy Quran, where Chairman Al-Rajhi will meet young preachers (Khateebs), Quran memorizers (Hafiz), and Imams. This engagement is expected to strengthen people-to-people and institutional ties by opening doors for future training, educational exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives that can support religious leadership in the Maldives. The delegation is also scheduled to meet with Hajj Corporation Limited to explore ways to further improve service delivery, logistics, and coordination for Maldivian pilgrims travelling to the holy cities.

A key highlight of the conference will be a special presentation by the Al-Safwa Foundation on its initiatives and experience in the Hajj and Umrah sector. This will provide Maldivian authorities and local service providers with insights into best practices in areas such as pilgrim welfare, digital solutions, crowd management, and end-to-end service planning. For the Maldives, where the economy is driven by a sophisticated service culture built around the tourism and resort industry, exposure to such expertise can help elevate the standards of faith-based travel services and strengthen the country’s reputation for high-quality, customer-focused offerings.

This year’s Hajj and Umrah Conference will once again bring together numerous companies that provide Hajj and Umrah services in the Maldives, creating a national platform for dialogue and partnership. Local operators, travel agencies, logistics partners, and related service providers are expected to benefit from direct interaction with Saudi institutions, enabling them to refine their packages, improve operational efficiency, and better align their services with the expectations of modern pilgrims. With increasing demand from Maldivians performing Hajj and Umrah every year, the conference is viewed as an important occasion to consolidate efforts between the public and private sectors and to ensure that Maldivian pilgrims receive safe, organized, and spiritually fulfilling journeys.
