Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, is representing the Maldives in Chongqing, China, where he is attending high-level diplomatic meetings dedicated to safeguarding cultural treasures. His visit centres on the second general assembly of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia (ACHA), taking place from 26 to 29 November, bringing together member states and sector experts to discuss practical cooperation on the protection and sustainable management of heritage assets across the region.

According to the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, ACHA has become a key international partner for the Maldives in advancing scientific and technical initiatives to strengthen the national heritage sector. Officials note that the collaboration directly supports the government’s core objective of protecting ancient artefacts, archaeological findings, mosques, shrines and historically significant island communities, and ensuring that these irreplaceable assets are preserved for future generations as part of the country’s long-term cultural and economic strategy.

Member nations of ACHA extend broad-based support to address urgent priorities in heritage protection, ranging from the restoration and structural reinforcement of vulnerable sites to the deployment of specialised technologies such as digital documentation, 3D mapping and advanced conservation techniques. Equally important is the alliance’s role in human resource development: experts from across Asia and beyond work with local professionals through training programmes, exchanges and joint research projects, building the capacity needed for a modern, well-governed heritage sector that can keep pace with rising environmental pressures and development demands.
