Earning one of the highest recognitions in global travel, the Maldives has been voted the Leading Island Destination in Africa and the Indian Ocean in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2025, announced on October 7. The recognition comes directly from the magazine’s international readership, who cast their votes for destinations that consistently deliver extraordinary travel experiences.

Scoring an exceptional 97.50, the Maldives outshone popular island destinations such as Madagascar, Zanzibar, and Kenya’s Lamu Archipelago. The accolade further reinforces the country’s established reputation as a world-class destination for luxury getaways and immersive, high-end travel experiences.

Condé Nast Traveller praised the Maldives for its unparalleled natural beauty, including iconic white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise lagoons, and year-round sunshine. Described as a “winter-sun showstopper,” the destination continues to captivate travellers from around the world, particularly those seeking privacy, serenity, and luxury in an idyllic setting. The archipelago’s distinctive one-island-one-resort concept was highlighted as a key feature that sets it apart in the global tourism market.

Among the many renowned resorts in the Maldives, Constance Halaveli and Constance Moofushi received special mention for delivering exceptional guest experiences. Constance Halaveli was celebrated for its seamless fusion of luxury and wellness, offering guests world-class spa facilities, a tranquil ambience, and family-friendly services. Meanwhile, Constance Moofushi was recognised for its vibrant atmosphere, outstanding service, and the ease of its all-inclusive packages, which offer refined comfort without compromising on exclusivity.

These two resorts exemplify the Maldives’ hospitality excellence, where personalised service, fine dining, and curated experiences are part of the norm. Whether it’s underwater adventures, wellness retreats, or romantic escapes, the country’s hospitality sector continues to innovate and adapt to the evolving preferences of global travellers.

Beyond its luxury appeal, the Maldives’ commitment to sustainable tourism has been another pillar of its international acclaim. Many resorts across the country incorporate eco-conscious practices, marine conservation initiatives, and community-based development into their operations. This blend of environmental responsibility and top-tier hospitality enables guests to enjoy the natural splendour of the islands while contributing to their preservation.

The 2025 Readers’ Choice Award solidifies the Maldives’ position at the forefront of island tourism globally. With over 1,200 coral islands spread across 26 natural atolls, and a tourism model centred around privacy, environmental care, and cultural authenticity, the country continues to attract high-end tourists, honeymooners, and families alike.
