To accommodate a surge in travel during the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha holidays, national carrier Maldivian has announced the operation of 111 additional flights across its network. The move comes as part of a broader strategy by Island Aviation Services, the operator of Maldivian, to meet increased demand and ensure uninterrupted connectivity throughout the Maldives.
Between May 1 and 9, Maldivian is expanding its flight operations to all 17 domestic destinations, allowing residents and travelers alike to move with greater ease during one of the most celebrated holidays in the Islamic calendar. Among these, the route to Laamu Kadhdhoo stands out as the most frequently traveled during peak festive seasons, and it is expected to see the highest number of flights during this period.
This increase in operations reflects Maldivian’s ongoing commitment to adjusting its flight schedule during national holidays, responding proactively to passenger needs and ensuring timely travel solutions across the archipelago. With a domestic network vital to maintaining regional access in the geographically dispersed nation, Maldivian’s services play a crucial role in supporting both local mobility and tourism-related travel.
In addition to its robust domestic flight schedule, Maldivian is also maintaining international operations to key markets, currently flying to three cities in China, three cities in India, and Malaysia. These international routes not only strengthen inbound tourism but also provide essential links for outbound travel during the holiday season.
The airline’s current fleet includes 25 aircraft, comprising five ATR aircraft and 11 seaplanes, both instrumental in facilitating domestic air travel. The seaplane service in particular is integral to resort access, enhancing guest experience by providing swift and scenic transfers across the country’s many islands.
As Eid-ul-Adha draws near, Maldivian’s increased connectivity is expected to ease congestion, improve passenger convenience, and support both holiday travel and economic activity. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to ensure seamless mobility and an enhanced travel experience during peak seasons, reinforcing the Maldives’ reputation as a well-connected and welcoming destination.
