To deepen ties with the Japanese tourism market and strengthen the Maldives’ appeal as a leading family and wellness destination, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives), in partnership with Singapore Airlines, is conducting an immersive familiarisation trip for prominent Japanese travel trade representatives from 31st May to 5th June 2025.
This strategic initiative offers participants a curated experience of the Maldives’ exceptional tourism offerings, with hosted stays at the renowned Centara Ras Fushi Resort & Spa Maldives and Pullman Maldives Maamutaa. These resorts were selected for their distinctive approach to wellness tourism and family-friendly hospitality, two segments showing growing demand among Japanese travellers.
The familiarisation trip is designed to provide delegates with in-depth exposure to the Maldives’ luxury hospitality, sustainable tourism practices, and diverse range of experiences from tranquil wellness retreats to engaging family adventures. In doing so, MMPRC aims to equip travel professionals with authentic insights and practical knowledge that will enable them to tailor and promote more personalised travel packages for their clients back in Japan.
As of 22nd April 2025, the Maldives has recorded 12,157 tourist arrivals from Japan. This initiative is part of MMPRC’s broader strategy to increase arrivals by enhancing destination visibility and fostering enduring partnerships within the Japanese travel industry. It follows a successful series of public relations campaigns, including the recent JOTC Quarterly Webinar.
Looking ahead, MMPRC has planned a comprehensive array of promotional activities targeting the Japanese market. These include joint marketing campaigns with leading tour operators and travel agencies, additional familiarisation trips for media and influencers, and a dedicated Maldives Roadshow in key cities across the Far East. These efforts reflect a continued commitment to expanding the Maldives’ presence in Japan and catering to its evolving travel preferences.
By offering authentic experiences to industry professionals and nurturing key stakeholder relationships, Visit Maldives continues to ensure that the Maldives remains a top-of-mind destination for Japanese travellers seeking serenity, rejuvenation, and unforgettable family memories in the heart of the Indian Ocean.
