In a series of productive engagements during his official visit to the State of Kuwait, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr Abdulla Khaleel, met with several key members of the Kuwaiti Cabinet to further expand cooperation in critical areas including renewable energy, economic development, and religious affairs.

In a meeting with the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy of Kuwait, discussions focused on strengthening energy partnerships, particularly in the field of renewable energy. Both sides explored practical ways to collaborate on ensuring long-term energy security, with an emphasis on sustainable and environmentally conscious solutions. As the Maldives continues to prioritize the transition to clean energy to mitigate the impacts of climate change, this engagement reflects the country’s growing focus on securing strategic partnerships to support its green energy objectives.

Foreign Minister Khaleel also held a meeting with H.E. Dr Noura Suleiman Salem Al-Fassam, the Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment of Kuwait. During the discussion, Minister Khaleel provided an overview of the current fiscal outlook of the Maldives and emphasized the positive direction of the country’s economic recovery and growth. The meeting served as an opportunity to identify potential areas for Kuwaiti investment in the Maldives and to promote stronger economic cooperation through both public and private sector channels.

Furthering discussions on cultural and religious collaboration, Minister Khaleel met with Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed Al Wasmi, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs of Kuwait. The two officials discussed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the field of religious affairs, with particular focus on Islamic education, capacity building, and the promotion of shared values between the two Muslim nations.

These high-level engagements reflect the Maldives’ commitment to deepening sector-specific cooperation with Kuwait, a long-standing partner in development. The meetings also underscore the Maldives’ broader diplomatic efforts to build partnerships that contribute meaningfully to national priorities, including sustainable development, economic diversification, and cultural exchange.
