The Republic of Maldives and Malaysia renewed their longstanding friendship and affirmed a mutual commitment to closer cooperation during a Joint Press Conference held in Putrajaya as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia. The event highlighted the two nations’ shared values, economic prospects, and alignment on global issues.
Speaking at the press conference, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu emphasized the deep ties between the Maldives and Malaysia, describing the relationship as one built on mutual respect, a shared Islamic heritage, and decades of goodwill. “The Maldives and Malaysia are bound by shared values and a strong foundation of Islamic faith,” he stated, underscoring the cultural and historical closeness of the two nations.
On the economic front, President Dr Muizzu outlined several areas with strong potential for partnership. He invited Malaysian investors to explore emerging business opportunities in the Maldives, particularly within Special Economic Zones (SEZs), maritime industries, financial services, and the expanding digital economy. Highlighting the Maldives’ growing role in regional trade and technology, the President expressed confidence that greater cooperation in these areas could lead to mutual economic benefits.

The press conference also reflected the two countries’ alignment on international humanitarian issues. President Dr Muizzu commended Malaysia’s principled and consistent support for the Palestinian cause. Both leaders reiterated their strong support for the rights of the Palestinian people and expressed a shared commitment to justice and peace in the region.
Looking ahead, President Dr Muizzu outlined a vision for strengthening the Maldives–Malaysia relationship through sustained high-level exchanges and active engagement across multiple sectors. “We are united in our vision to transform our close partnership,” he remarked, signaling a strong political will to deepen cooperation.
