After a tight 1st round of voting, Maldives elects are new president with a cruising victory against the former president. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of People’s National Congress (PNC) won the election against Ibrahim Mohamed Solih of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) after competing in the 2nd round.
After the 1st round of voting, no candidate was abled to reach the minimum 50% of votes, and as per the law of Maldives, a 2nd round was held between the two most voted candidates. During the 2nd round of voting, President elect Dr. Muizzu got 52.24% of votes securing 127,927 votes. Meanwhile President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih got 44.62% with 109,261 votes. A total of 282,804 were eligible to vote while 244,889 turned out for voting.
With the election, the new president elect will be inaugurated in 17th of November. With a profound manifesto, cultivating the needs of all the civilians of Maldives, within the first press after electing, Dr. Muizzu has stressed on executing his manifesto and promising completely. This includes major reformation of the matured Tourism industry of Maldives. It is set to be believed that the new policies would open more doors for the Arabian Peninsula to explore the beauties of the Maldives.
