Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has introduced a brand-new Beechcraft King Air 360 aircraft dedicated to luxury air transfers, strengthening the country’s premium transport network and aligning domestic aviation services more closely with the high standards associated with the Maldives’ world-renowned luxury tourism industry.

The aircraft has arrived in the Maldives under Maldivian’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme, with preparations under way to commence services. The airline will operate its first luxury service using the King Air 360 in partnership with Nilaa Corals, while also making the aircraft available for private charters, business travel and dedicated transfers to destinations across the country.

Speaking as chief guest at the ceremony marking the aircraft’s addition to the fleet, Ahmed Shafeeu, State Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development and Chairman of Island Aviation Services Limited, highlighted the importance of enhancing air connectivity in line with the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s leading luxury tourism destinations. He noted that the country’s transport services should complement the premium experiences provided by its resorts and said Maldivian is working to build greater confidence among tourism stakeholders and passengers through improved service standards.

The partnership with Nilaa Corals is expected to demonstrate the potential of dedicated premium aviation services for the resort sector. The King Air 360 will primarily support transfers for Nilaa Coral Island while remaining accessible to other resorts, businesses and customers seeking private charter services. This flexibility is expected to provide tourism operators with additional options for arranging convenient and personalised transfers for high-end travellers.

Island Aviation Services Limited Deputy Managing Director Ali Saleem said Maldivian regularly receives requests for specialised transfers for luxury travellers, particularly passengers arriving during periods when seaplane services are unavailable. The introduction of the King Air 360 is designed to respond to this demand by providing direct connections at preferred travel times and reducing lengthy transit periods.

With seating for eight passengers, the twin-engine turboprop has been configured for premium tourism and business travel. Internationally recognised for its speed, reliability and comfortable cabin environment, the King Air 360 is well suited to the geography of the Maldives, where resorts and inhabited islands are dispersed across a vast ocean area. Maldivian said the aircraft offers an attractive interior and efficient travel experience, with the capability to reach destinations faster than ATR aircraft on suitable routes.

The new service is expected to be particularly valuable for luxury resorts seeking a more exclusive arrival experience for guests. Direct transfers can allow travellers to continue their journeys with greater privacy, convenience and flexibility, strengthening the overall visitor experience from the moment they arrive in the Maldives.

Maldivian also intends to make the service available to companies, individuals, groups, clubs and associations throughout the country. The airline has encouraged businesses and organisations to consider the luxury charter option for official travel, corporate requirements and specialised journeys.

The aircraft’s introduction further supports the Government’s broader efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve connectivity and diversify premium travel services across the archipelago. Tourism remains the backbone of the Maldivian economy, and continued investment in modern aviation services is expected to complement the country’s expanding portfolio of luxury resorts while supporting higher service standards across the tourism value chain.

Alongside its extensive domestic network, Maldivian operates international services to destinations in countries including Australia, Bangladesh, India and China. The airline reports an operating fleet of 25 aircraft, comprising one Airbus A330-200, one Airbus A320, five ATR aircraft, seven Dash 8 aircraft and 11 DHC-6 Twin Otters used for seaplane operations.

The addition of the Beechcraft King Air 360 expands this diverse fleet with a dedicated premium travel option, reinforcing Maldivian’s role in supporting the continued development of the Maldives as a globally competitive luxury tourism destination.
