Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed for Antigua and Barbuda at the head of a high-level Government delegation to represent the Maldives at the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled to take place from 1 to 4 November 2026.

The summit will bring together Heads of Government and senior representatives from across the Commonwealth under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” The high-level gathering will provide an important platform for member countries to strengthen cooperation and explore practical solutions to shared economic, environmental and security challenges.

During the summit, Vice President Latheef is scheduled to participate in several high-level engagements, where he will deliver key remarks and national interventions reflecting the Maldives’ priorities and perspectives. His participation will also provide opportunities to advance the country’s engagement with Commonwealth partners and strengthen international cooperation in areas important to the Maldives and other small island developing states.

Discussions at CHOGM are expected to focus on expanding multilateral cooperation, attracting sustainable investment, enhancing trade, strengthening economic and environmental resilience, and advancing inclusive growth and sustainable development across Commonwealth member states. These priorities closely align with the Maldives Government’s efforts to broaden international partnerships, promote economic opportunities and strengthen resilience while pursuing sustainable national development.

The Vice President is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam, who will also participate in the Commonwealth Ministerial Meeting on Small States and the Pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting.

The Maldives’ participation at the summit reinforces the Government’s commitment to active international engagement and to ensuring that the interests and development priorities of small island nations remain prominent in global discussions. Through its engagement at CHOGM, the Maldives is expected to continue advocating stronger partnerships, increased investment opportunities and meaningful international cooperation that contribute to long-term prosperity and resilience.
