A delegation from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) participated in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group (WBG) Annual Meetings held from 12 to 18 October 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, strengthening the Maldives’ engagement with key international and regional financial partners.

During the meetings, the MMA delegation held constructive discussions with representatives of the IMF, World Bank Group, regional partners, international financial institutions and other key stakeholders. The engagements provided an important platform to exchange perspectives on global and domestic economic developments, financial-sector priorities and opportunities to further strengthen cooperation with international institutions.

Discussions also focused on enhancing institutional capacity, expanding access to technical assistance and identifying areas for capacity development that could support the Maldives’ evolving financial and economic requirements. Such cooperation remains important as the country continues to strengthen financial-sector resilience, regulatory oversight and institutional frameworks while supporting the Government’s broader economic development priorities.

The Maldives’ participation in the high-level international meetings also reflected the country’s continued commitment to maintaining constructive engagement with global financial institutions and benefiting from international expertise, policy dialogue and technical cooperation. Regular engagement with institutions such as the IMF and World Bank Group contributes to informed policymaking and supports efforts to strengthen the stability and effectiveness of the country’s financial system.

The delegation was led by MMA Deputy Governor Ms. Aishath Asna Hamdi and included Ms. Aishath Nadhiya, Senior Executive Director of Banking and Market Operations; Ms. Dhaha Shuaib, Economist at the Economic Surveillance and Forecasting Section; Ms. Fasahath Sabig, Manager of the Banks Offsite Supervision Section; and Ms. Moohath Mohamed Rasheed, Assistant Manager at the Governor’s Office.

The MMA’s participation in the Annual Meetings reinforces the Maldives’ continued engagement with the international financial community as the country works to strengthen economic resilience, develop institutional expertise and support sustainable long-term economic growth.
