Visit Maldives is participating in TTG Travel Experience 2026 in Rimini, Italy, from 14 to 16 October, reinforcing the Maldives’ continued engagement with one of its oldest and most important European tourism markets.
A delegation of 48 industry representatives from 24 companies is participating under the Visit Maldives umbrella, providing Maldivian tourism businesses with direct access to Italian travel trade partners, tour operators, stakeholders, marketing agencies and media professionals. Over the three-day event, the delegation is holding business meetings, networking sessions and discussions focused on strengthening existing partnerships and identifying new opportunities for cooperation.
TTG Travel Experience is regarded as an important business platform for the international tourism industry, bringing together destination representatives, travel professionals and commercial partners to exchange market insights, develop partnerships and explore emerging travel trends. The Maldives’ participation is expected to support greater visibility for the destination while enabling local tourism businesses to present their latest products, properties and visitor experiences directly to key decision-makers in the Italian market.
Visit Maldives CEO and Managing Director Abdulla Yasir said Italy has maintained a longstanding connection with the Maldives and remains an important market for the country’s tourism industry. He said participation in TTG Travel Experience provides an opportunity to engage directly with Italian partners, explore new areas of collaboration and present the wider range of experiences available across the Maldives.
The Maldives is being promoted at the event through a 96-square-metre stand designed to showcase the destination’s natural beauty, distinctive island experiences and diverse tourism offerings. Participating industry partners are also using the platform to promote resorts, accommodation products and travel experiences to professionals seeking new opportunities for their clients.
The country’s tourism sector continues to benefit from a broad and internationally competitive resort portfolio, ranging from established luxury properties to contemporary island resorts offering high standards of accommodation, dining, recreation, marine experiences and personalised hospitality. The Maldives’ one-island-one-resort concept remains a distinctive feature of the destination, providing travellers with privacy, direct access to beaches and lagoons, and an immersive island experience surrounded by the Indian Ocean.
Continued development and investment in the resort sector have further strengthened the Maldives’ international appeal. Resorts across the country continue to introduce upgraded villas, enhanced guest facilities, family-focused services, marine activities, wellness offerings, cultural experiences and environmentally responsible tourism initiatives. These developments complement the Government’s wider efforts to strengthen tourism competitiveness, diversify visitor experiences and ensure the benefits of tourism growth continue to contribute to national economic development.
Visit Maldives has carried out several targeted promotional initiatives in Italy during 2026, including a media familiarisation trip in collaboration with Alpitour and a joint marketing campaign with Sporting Vacanze. Participation in TTG Travel Experience forms part of the wider strategy to deepen engagement with the Italian travel industry and maintain strong demand for the Maldives.
Italy holds a particularly significant place in the history of Maldivian tourism, with Italian travellers among the earliest international visitors to discover the country as a holiday destination. This historic connection has developed into a strong and enduring tourism relationship, supported by continued interest in the Maldives’ beaches, marine environment, resort experiences and renowned hospitality.
As of 12 October 2026, the Maldives had welcomed 100,779 visitors from Italy, making it the country’s fifth-largest source market. The performance reflects the continuing importance of Italy to the Maldivian tourism industry and underlines the value of sustained engagement with Italian travel partners.
