The newly completed apron extension is now operational and designed to increase the airport’s capacity to handle a higher volume of aircraft movements and ground operations with greater efficiency. Financed by Maldives Islamic Bank and constructed by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company, the upgraded apron provides additional parking stands and improved manoeuvring space, enabling the airport to better accommodate private jets and charter flights while supporting scheduled commercial services. This enhancement is particularly relevant for the luxury resort segment, where seamless and time-efficient transfers are an important part of the overall guest experience. Parallel to the apron upgrade, groundwork has commenced on an extension of the passenger terminal building, following the signing of a construction agreement in November 2025.
