Sun Travels has introduced a renewed brand identity and an upgraded digital booking platform, marking a significant chapter in the company’s 35-year journey in Maldivian tourism. The launch was held on 27 November 2025 at Sun Siyam Olhuveli and was officiated by Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, in the presence of company leaders, key business partners, and invited media. Held at one of the group’s flagship resorts, the event underscored Sun Travels’ ambition to couple Maldivian hospitality with advanced travel technology for global markets.
The company’s evolution is closely tied to the entrepreneurial story of its founder. Ahmed Siyam Mohamed began his career on the island of Kudafari, working in a wide range of operational and administrative roles within the tourism sector, from receptionist and billing clerk to storekeeper, reservations executive, and marketing manager. In 1990, he established Sun Travels & Tours with USD 900 in personal savings and no external financial backing. Over the decades that followed, the business grew from a modest travel company into a diversified hospitality group operating multiple resorts across the Maldives, supported by an extensive international network of tour operators, travel advisors, and distribution partners.
At the heart of the current transformation is a rebuilt digital platform powered by a Juniper booking engine. According to Sun Travels, the new system is designed to offer faster processing, greater reliability, and enhanced booking functionality for both trade partners and travellers. The platform supports real-time availability, deep supplier integrations, instant booking confirmations, and dynamic contracting, while offering an updated suite of tools tailored for partners and suppliers. It has been engineered to handle a broad portfolio of travel products including resort and hotel accommodation, transfers, excursions, diving, flight components, curated holiday bundles, and services from independent providers across the value chain.
The new booking environment also incorporates features aimed at strengthening the position of suppliers within the Sun Travels network. These include enhanced visibility for contracted partners, expanded promotional opportunities, and improved reporting capabilities that enable more data-driven commercial decisions. The company notes that the upgraded platform is intended to give global agents and partners a more seamless, consolidated view of inventory, pricing, and availability across the group’s properties and services, while simplifying day-to-day operations through automation and a more intuitive user experience.
The launch at Sun Siyam Olhuveli also placed the spotlight on the resort itself, one of the group’s most recognisable properties in the Maldives. Sun Siyam Olhuveli is a four-star deluxe resort located in South Malé Atoll, reachable via a speedboat transfer of around 45 minutes from Velana International Airport. Set across three interconnected islands Dream, Main, and Romance the property is positioned as a “Paradise of Plenty,” bringing together overwater villas, beachside accommodation, and lush tropical surroundings suited to couples, families, and groups. The resort is known for its wide range of experiences, from surfing, kite surfing, and diving in its turquoise lagoons to spa treatments, family-friendly pools, and dedicated kids’ spaces. Guests have access to numerous restaurants and bars offering Maldivian, Asian, Indian, Italian, and international cuisine, alongside relaxed beachfront venues and fine-dining concepts, making the property an appealing showcase for Sun Travels’ new digital capabilities and brand direction.
Alongside the technology rollout, Sun Travels has unveiled a refreshed brand identity designed to reflect its shift toward more technology-focused operations and continued international growth. The updated visual system has been developed for clarity, adaptability, and consistency across digital and offline touchpoints, aligning the company’s image with its ambitions for long-term expansion. Chief Executive Officer Deepak Booneady emphasised that the transformation brings together cutting-edge digital infrastructure with the organisational values that have shaped Sun Travels since its inception, particularly its commitment to service quality and long-term relationships. Director of Sales & Marketing Nina Nizar highlighted that the redesigned platform and brand identity are intended to strengthen collaboration with partners worldwide, offering them enhanced tools, more coherent brand messaging, and a smoother booking journey that connects global travellers with Maldivian resort experiences such as Sun Siyam Olhuveli.
