World Tourism Day 2025, marked globally on 27 September under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” was celebrated in Malé with a unique initiative by Barceló Nasandhura. The renowned five-star property opened its doors to students of Villa College’s Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality programme, offering them an immersive look into the inner workings of a luxury hotel.
The event provided much more than a symbolic gesture, it was an opportunity for young Maldivians preparing for careers in tourism to gain real-world exposure. Students toured the hotel’s various departments, including Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Housekeeping, and Facilities Management. The sessions were structured to give them an operational briefing and a practical understanding of how each unit contributes to the guest experience and overall performance of a top-tier resort.
By blending classroom learning with industry insights, the visit highlighted the importance of linking academic knowledge with hands-on training. For the students, it was a chance to witness first-hand the precision, coordination, and professionalism required to maintain the high standards expected in the global hospitality industry. Such experiences not only strengthen technical skills but also inspire confidence and enthusiasm for future careers in one of the world’s most dynamic sectors.
Barceló Nasandhura’s initiative reflected its commitment to fostering local talent and supporting the Maldives’ reputation as a leading tourism destination. As tourism continues to be the backbone of the national economy, programs that empower young professionals ensure that the industry grows with both sustainability and excellence at its core.
This World Tourism Day celebration in Malé therefore stood as an example of how collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions can nurture the next generation of hospitality leaders, future professionals who will carry forward the Maldives’ global standing as a premier destination for travelers.
